The WTA season is in full swing as, four months into the year, we’ve already had four WTA 1000s–and now we move on to Madrid. On Day 1 at the unpredictable clay-court event, we have some interesting matches including Barbora Strycova’s unexpected return against Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Karolina Muchova’s battle against Anett Kontaveit. Out of nowhere, Barbora Strycova has picked up her racket at the age of 37 to try and contest on the singles circuit once more.<\/p>\n

At a tournament that historically hasn’t suited her, against a player suited to the surface, against a player that’s just won a Challenger title in San Luis Potosi, having not played a singles match in over two years–Strycova’s renaissance does not start here.
