Now, we will take a look at how the match progressed:

Cameron Norrie Overcomes Thiago Monteiro After Battle in Rio

Monteiro often opted for high shots in the first set:

Monteiro tried to utilize the high bounce of the surface by playing high shots repeatedly early on in the match. However, Norrie was able to deal with them quite well and broke the Brazilian in the very first game.

However, Monteiro got a break back in the 10th game of the set, even as Norrie served for the set. The Brazilian hit a few thunderous down-the-line winners off his forehand, including one on the break point in the 10th game that kissed the tram line before going past Norrie.

Still, Norrie managed to break him again and then served out the first set. The set went on for an hour and 20 minutes, as the Brit finally managed to prevail.

Embed from Getty Images

Cameron Norrie proved to be the more clinical player again in the second set:

Norrie once again got a break up early in the second set, but Monteiro broke back to level the score. However, the Brit once again broke him and then served out the match ultimately.

Monteiro’s backhand was not at par with his forehand, as the Brazilian committed quite a few errors off it in the match. He hit a few of his shots long to gift some easy points to the Brit. In comparison, Norrie was more clinical and played better during key moments.

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Second seed Cameron Norrie of Great Britain edged past Thiago Monteiro of Brazil 7-5 7-5 in a second-round match of the Rio Open on Wednesday.
