Who do you think will win?

WTA Lyon Day 2 Predictions

Danka Kovinic vs Viktorija Golubic

Head-to-head: Kovinic 1-0

Viktorija Golubic was the runner-up in Lyon two years ago and has been posting excellent results indoors throughout her career, which seems a bit counter-intuitive given her one-handed backhand and not that much natural power. The Swiss has excellent timing though and should be a threat in this event again. Danka Kovinic is definitely no pushover though and after a solid start to the year, the Montenegro native will pose some questions here, especially helped out by her underrated serve.
Prediction: Golubic in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Anna Bondar vs Nuria Parrizas-Diaz

Head-to-head: Bondar 2-1

Anna Bondar leads the head-to-head, but both her wins came on clay courts. It was Nuria Parrizas-Diaz who defeated her in the final of an ITF event in Potchefstroom two years ago. Indoor conditions should favor the Spaniard here as she’s a player who enjoys controlling the rallies and looking for opportunities to wrap points up quickly. She’s also had a nice start to the year, including the upset over Beatriz Haddad Maia at the Australian Open.
Prediction: Parrizas-Diaz in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Caroline Garcia vs Tereza Martincova

Head-to-head: Garcia 3-2

This has been a very topsy-turvy head-to-head with Caroline Garcia claiming wins in beatdowns like 6-1 6-0 or 6-3 6-0, but also losing to Tereza Martincova twice on clay. She also struggled to take the Czech down on hard courts once, only managing to snatch a 7-5 in the third thriller. The Frenchwoman will be a bit disappointed with her Australian Open fourth-round exit, but so far there hasn’t been much to suggest she won’t continue being a major threat this year. They both enjoy indoor conditions, but Garcia’s arsenal of weapons is just basically unlimited and perhaps even the biggest on Tour.
Prediction: Garcia in 2

Main Photo from Getty.

Seven singles matches are on Tuesday’s schedule for the WTA Open 6e Sens Metropole de Lyon.
