Predicting these matches are Manuel Traquete, Tracey Essex, and Jim Smith. Who do you think will win?<\/p>\n<h2>US Open Day 1 Women&#8217;s Predictions<\/h2>\n<h4>Veronika Kudermetova vs Donna Vekic<\/h4>\n<p><em>Manuel:<\/em><br \/>\nVekic has the head-to-head lead (2-1) but Kudermetova is clearly the better player right now and should be able to win with relative ease at this point in their careers.<br \/>\n<em>Predictions: Kudermetova in 2<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Tracey:<\/em><br \/>\nVekic has had a career filled with fleeting moments of brilliance, followed by lengthy streaks of losses. Kudermetova will quickly break down the Vekic game. Her doubles prowess has improved her net game, allowing Kudermetova to end points on her terms.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Kudermetova in 2<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Jim:<\/em><br \/>\nKudermetova has gone somewhat under the radar over the past couple of years, but the Russian has played some very fine tennis. That will be the biggest detriment in the American\u2019s opener. It will take time for her to shake off the rust and find her footing. While Osorio\u2019s hard-court swing hasn\u2019t been steller, she\u2019s in much better form. Expect the American to struggle and Osorio to take advantage.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Osorio in 2<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Jim:<\/em><br \/>\nIt\u2019s been a disappointing few weeks for <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2019\/04\/12\/maria-camila-osorio-serrano-here-to-stay\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Camila Osorio<\/a> and this does not exactly look like the ideal opportunity to turn it around. Not a good stat against Ruse, who capitalizes on break points. Ruse converts on break points more than 50% of the time. It\u2019s not altogether that straightforward, and we\u2019ll see momentum shifts. I give the edge to Ruse who\u2019ll capitalize on her opportunities.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Ruse in 3<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Jim:<\/em><br \/>\nSaville has been playing some great tennis lately, Ruse rather less so. She won just four games when she last stepped on court and that was nearly six weeks ago. The Tunisian\u2019s shot selection, variety, placement and pace will stymie the hard-hitting American.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Jabeur in 2<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Jim:<\/em><br \/>\nIt has been a disappointing spell for Jabeur after her <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2022\/07\/03\/ons-jabeur-wimbledon-quarterfinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">run to the final<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Wimbledon<\/a>, but this looks like a good opportunity for her to get back on track.
