On the other side of the net despite being ranked inside the world’s Top 150, Jaimee Fourlis has not won a match at this level for over three years which is astonishing. Keeping all that in mind however, the 22 year old is still far more experienced and is coming off a final just a few weeks ago in an ITF event. This on paper should be too much of a jump for the teenage Canadian but she could put up a better fight than expected.
Prediction: Fourlis in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Kaja Juvan vs Cadence Brace

Head-to-head: 0-0

It’s not every day you start an event off against a player ranked outside the top 700 but that’s what Juvan faces. Just like Stakusic, Brace is another Canadian who’s made the most of a very weak qualifying draw beating a player ranked 362 in the world and another 820. Juvan can be frustrating and has lost five of her last seven matches but this is far too much of an ask for Brace. If anything, this is a very good week for the Slovenian to turn her form around heading into New York.
Prediction: Juvan in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Rebecca Marino vs Victoria Mboko

Head-to-head: 0-0

Another low ranked Canadian and this time she’s just 15 and a wild card instead of a qualifier! Coming off a semifinal in the girls’ singles at Wimbledon and an W25 ITF win a month ago, who knows what the future holds for Mboko. For now, however, Marino being over twice her age and ranked just outside the top 100 and seen and done it all before.
