All the remaining first-round matches will be finished on Tuesday and, as always, we here at LWOT are offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Oceane Dodin vs Tereza Martincova and Daria Kasatkina vs Greet Minnen. But who will advance?

WTA Granby Day 2 Predictions

Diane Parry vs Lulu Sun

Head-to-head: first meeting

Diane Parry can consider herself pretty unlucky. In the first qualifying round at Cincinnati, she faced the eventual champion Caroline Garcia and even managed to take a set off her. However, her luck has changed now as she’s facing Lulu Sun in the opening round at the Granby. The Swiss will make her second WTA Tour appearance after taking just three games off Arantxa Rus in Rabat earlier this year. Her recent ITF results don’t seem to suggest she’ll have a shot at taking out someone as talented as Parry, even after winning two matches in qualifying.

Prediction: Parry in 2
Embed from Getty Images

Himino Sakatsume vs Jasmine Paolini

Head-to-head: first meeting

Himino Sakatsume lost in the final qualifying round to the 17-year-old talent Kayla Cross, but will make her WTA Tour debut as a lucky loser. Can she stand a chance against Jasmine Paolini, who isn’t exactly known for her hard court achievements? The Italian has really improved her attacking abilities though and should probably have too much for her opponent anyway. Sakatsume was demolished by Cross and that certainly doesn’t bode well for her performance here.

Prediction: Paolini in 2
Embed from Getty Images

Rebecca Peterson vs Nuria Parrizas Diaz

Head-to-head: Peterson 2-0 Parrizas Diaz

The two head-to-head meetings took place back in 2013, so they don’t carry much relevance nine years later. Nuria Parrizas Diaz had two identical runs at Toronto and Cincinnati (lost in the final qualifying round and then round one of the main draw as a lucky loser both times). Meanwhile, Rebecca Peterson chose to play a 125K event in Vancouver and caught some nice rhythm reaching the semifinals. If she can echo some of that run here, she could add a third win over Parrizas Diaz to her resume.

Prediction: Peterson in 3
Embed from Getty Images

Marta Kostyuk vs Tamara Zidansek

Head-to-head: Kostyuk 1-0 Zidansek

Marta Kostyuk won three matches in Cincinnati, qualifying and making the second round in her first event since Wimbledon. The Ukrainian hasn’t found enough middle ground in her game yet, but she’s an exceptionally talented ball-striker and someone who could have a crazy ceiling when she matures. This is a very nice opening draw for her against Tamara Zidansek. The Slovenian generally performs better on clay and hasn’t touched the court in well over a month.

Prediction: Kostyuk in 2

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

It’s already the tenth women’s edition of the WTA Granby Championships, but the tournament has received an upgrade from an ITF event to WTA 250.
