Multiple WTA 500 and 1000 tournaments in the space of just over a month certainly is a treat for all us tennis fans, even if Iga Swiatek keeps winning them. However, the Polish star will have her hands full if she wants to go five for five here in Rome. That being said, we’re a long way from worrying about a winner. As such, we will be focusing our attention on some of Tuesday’s action here in our WTA Rome day 2 predictions.

WTA Rome Day 2 Predictions

Madison Brengle vs Marta Kostyuk

Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Kostyuk

This should be a close-fought affair. These two are separated by just two places in the WTA ranking system. However, Kostyuk is a young talent and has a far higher ceiling than Madison Brengle who has enjoyed a consistent but unspectacular career. The American has developed a knack for putting together good runs in big tournaments over the last twelve months. Nevertheless, I expect Kostyuk to edge this out behind superior power off the ground that should allow her to pressure the Brengle serve.

Prediction: Kostyuk in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Camila Osorio vs Lucia Bronzetti

Head-to-head: First meeting

Bronzetti has snuck into the top 80 in the women’s game without doing anything significant or eye-opening over the last 12 months. She won an ITF even in Switzerland in April and has done well to qualify for the main draw in most WTA tournaments over that time span but has little to show for those qualifying runs. Conversely, Osorio has established herself as a bright young star in the women’s game and a real force to be reckoned with on clay. The Colombian went 16-3 on the surface last year and lifted her first WTA title along the way. I expect a similarly dominant run on the red dirt this year, starting with a routine win here in the early stages of WTA Rome.

Prediction: Osorio in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Jasmine Paolini vs Jil Teichmann

Head-to-head: First meeting

It took a while, but Teichmann finally found her footing on clay this year which led to a semifinal appearance in Madrid last week. I thought the Swiss would edge Jessica Pegula in that match and am expecting another strong week from her here. Paolini is a tough opponent this early in the tournament and is equally comfortable on the red dirt. The diminutive Italian also has a ferocious forehand that Teichmann will need to be weary of here. If the Swiss star can keep the ball out of Paolini’s strike zone she should move on comfortably enough here.

Prediction: Teichmann in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Bianca Andreescu vs Emma Raducanu

Head-to-head: First meeting

This match could well be the first in a long and entertaining rivalry between two of the future stars of the women’s game. Both burst into the limelight with dream runs at the US Open and are amazing to watch when in full flow. Andreescu is definitely the more complete player of the two. However, injury issues have left her short of match fitness and form in recent months. Raducanu has also struggled until recently, winning very few matches after her US Open victory. The Brit has since put those concerns to bed with good showings in Madrid and Stuttgart and will want to put in another good performance here.

Neither are at their most comfortable on clay and that adds to the intrigue of this match. However, Andreescu’s variety leads me to believe it is only a matter of time until she is a real force on this surface and this may well be the year she shows us exactly that. Expect an entertaining match here, but I expect the Canadian will edge the headline match of this set of WTA Rome day 2 predictions.

Prediction: Andreescu in 3

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

We’ve reached that stage of the year where the big tournaments keep coming and there’s almost two much tennis to go around.
