The action is heating up in the Californian desert as second round action continues at the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday. Let\u2019s take a look at some of today’s Indian Wells Best Bets. Another busy day with a heap of matches on offer, there\u2019s a few big underdogs that stand out as potential upsets and trusty competitor who should get the job done.<\/p>\n
Daria Saville is showing some vintage form in Indian Wells. The Aussie came through qualifying with wins over Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5 6-3 and Magdalena Frech 6-0 3-6 6-3 before defeating Shuai Zhang 6-3 6-2 in the first round of the main draw. With three solid wins under her belt, Saville looms as a threat to a potentially rusty Ons Jabeur.<\/p>\n
The odds suggest this will be a straightforward win for Jabeur, but I don\u2019t think that will be the case. Saville is playing well enough to at least make this very competitive. This isn\u2019t the best matchup for Jabeur on a slow surface, Saville\u2019s strengths counteract some of Jabeur\u2019s biggest strengths. Most notably, Jabeur\u2019s versatility won\u2019t be as problematic for Saville as it is for other opponents. Saville\u2019s speed will make it tough for Jabeur to successfully use drop shots and Saville has variety of her own to match Jabeur\u2019s variety.<\/p>\n
Pedro Martinez is flying under the radar. The Spaniard just won win first tour level title in Santiago and made a decent start in Indian Wells with a 6-4 7-5 win over Joao Sousa. Few would give Martinez much of a chance against defending champion Cameron Norrie, but I do. Here\u2019s why.<\/p>\n
The slow, heavy conditions in Indian Wells definitely suit the game of Pedro Martinez. This matchup will feature a lot of long rallies, Martinez is confident enough to at least make this very competitive. Norrie doesn\u2019t give much away, but he won\u2019t blow Martinez off the court. If Martinez is disciplined there\u2019s no reason why he can\u2019t push for an upset win. Norrie is under a lot of pressure in this match, his first time defending such a big title, that could work against him. Value with the Spaniard.<\/p>\n
Sorribes Tormo is barely favoured to defeat Kaja Juvan, I\u2019d rate Sorribes Tormo as a fairly solid favourite in this matchup in slow, heavy conditions. Sorribes Tormo hasn\u2019t been at her very best of late but did show some decent signs in her last few events with back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in Guadalajara and Monterrey.<\/p>\n
Juvan has shown some decent signs of her own of late, but I don\u2019t think she will enjoy this matchup. Juvan plays better on a quick surface and looks to be outclassed in this matchup. I don\u2019t think Juvan has the firepower to consistently overpower Sorribes Tormo in these conditions, and I doubt she will outlast her from the back of the court. This means Sorribes Tormo is more likely to win than the odds suggest. Value with the Spaniard.<\/p>\n
