The Brit is searching for a tournament win on the comeback trail. Since claiming the title at the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2019\/10\/20\/winning-antwerp-andy-murray\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">European Open in 2019<\/a> it&#8217;s been a tough road for the former World #1.<\/p>\n<p>Murray is looking to improve his ranking. The Brit is currently #116 in the world and accepting wild cards into tour events. Tournament directors see the Brit as a marquee name to drive fans to attend their events. The Brit is still trying to recover following injuries that plagued the last few seasons.<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Olympic singles Gold medallist is still a big name in mens tennis. Murray draws a crowd wherever playing, so is always a guaranteed draw. The Brit is enjoying being pain free and appears to be enjoying the sport again.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit underwent hip resurfacing in 2019, the same operation that Bob Bryan had. The Bryan Brothers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/news\/articles\/2020-08-27\/bob_and_mike_bryan_announce_retirement_from_tennis.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">retired<\/a> from professional tennis last year. The twins record of 119 Open Era doubles titles, including 16 Grand Slams, will be tough if not impossible to beat.<\/p>\n<p>Murray is doing something that no other player has done&#8211;playing singles after a hip resurfacing. The Brit told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/48082919\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press<\/a> in April 2019 &#8220;I don&#8217;t feel any pressure to get playing again but if my body will allow, I will try.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The former World #1 certainly is trying. After a few false starts, where a further groin injury prevented participation, Murray is eager to get back on the tour.<\/p>\n<p>Although losing in the first round of the US Open against third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2021\/08\/30\/andy-murray-looks-ready-to-rise-once-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Murray showed the fight<\/a>. The match was a thrilling five setter, the Brit proved the doubters wrong. Murray may have lost the match, but he is not done yet.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit entered the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2021\/09\/10\/andy-murray-atp-challenger-rennes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">ATP Challenger in Rennes<\/a> last week, winning the first match. However, Murray lost the second match. Signs of the &#8220;old&#8221; Murray are visible, the Brit needs matches and match wins so by entering Metz and also San Diego before Indian Wells is good planning.<\/p>\n<p>Murray is not done yet, it will be a slog to get back to the top. The Brit may not win another major, this doesn&#8217;t matter. Andy Murray is a legacy.
