The first day of the most prestigious tournament<\/a> in the world is over and there were a few surprising results and performances on show.<\/p>\n

The biggest shock of the day was the exit of three time Grand Slam winner Stanislas Wawrinka<\/strong> to Daniil Medvedev<\/strong> losing 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-1. The 21 year old Russian has never been in the main draw at Wimbledon, while Wawrinka lack’s the confidence to succeed on the grass and has actually\u00a0fallen in the first round five times.<\/p>\n

Medvedev was dominant on his serve only losing four first serve points in the first set. Wawrinka battled back to win the second set, but injured his left knee in the process. The world number 49 battled through and came out with the biggest win of his career so far.<\/p>\n

Reigning champion Andy Murray<\/strong> come through the first round unscathed, beating lucky loser\u00a0Alexander Bublik<\/strong> 6-1 6-4 6-2. The world number one did seem to struggle at times with his sore hip, but was rarely tested in the match.<\/p>\n
