But each week <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordontennis.com\/2020\/08\/07\/bertens-svitolina-withdraw-us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">we see a continually shifting outlook<\/a> on which players are playing and which are not.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a list of the Top 10 Ranked players on the men&#8217;s side and whether they are in, or out of the 2020 U.S. Open:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Novak Djokovic is IN<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/08\/13\/us\/novak-djokovic-us-open-spt-trnd\/index.html#:~:text=Novak%20Djokovic%20will%20be%20playing,tested%20positive%20for%20Covid%2D19.&amp;text=The%20three%2Dtime%20U.S.%20Open,event%2C%20which%20starts%20August%2031.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Djokovic tested positive for the virus earlier in the year<\/a> and has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/20\/sports\/tennis\/coronavirus-djokovic-vaccine-covid19.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">outspoken against the mandatory vaccines<\/a> policy that had floated around. Nadal is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/tennis\/story\/_\/id\/29596152\/defending-champion-rafael-nadal-cites-covid-19-concerns-announcing-play-us-open\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">still unwilling to travel<\/a> and has decided to stay home in Spain instead of travel to New York City. The Austrian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essentiallysports.com\/the-plan-is-to-go-there-dominic-thiem-commits-to-us-open-2020-after-prior-concerns-atp-tennis-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">committed to playing back in July if the tournament\u00a0 would played<\/a>. He has arrived in the United States and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essentiallysports.com\/we-cant-see-each-other-dominic-thiem-reveals-serious-security-precautions-at-us-open-2020-atp-tennis-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">documenting the precautions<\/a> being laid down by the ATP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roger Federer is OUT<\/strong>, but not necessarily for COVID concerns. He posted on social media about an injury in June and is still citing the injury for staying out of New York. He has been encouraging toward international tennis and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicworld.com\/sports-news\/tennis-news\/roger-federer-backs-us-open-decision-as-people-will-be-sick-next-year.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expressing the desire for the U.S. Open to be played<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daniil Medvedev is IN<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essentiallysports.com\/alexander-zverev-and-daniil-medvedev-to-join-novak-djokovic-at-us-open-2020-atp-tennis-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He confirmed on social media he would be returning<\/a> to Flushing Meadows. The Greek was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com\/pro-game\/2020\/08\/stefanos-tsitsipas-among-first-arrive-us-open-flushing-meadows-toronto-flashback\/90129\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one of the first international players to arrive in the U.S.<\/a> to prepare for the U.S. Open.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alexander Zverev is IN<\/strong>. Zverev&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.essentiallysports.com\/alexander-zverev-and-daniil-medvedev-to-join-novak-djokovic-at-us-open-2020-atp-tennis-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> management team announced he would arrive<\/a> 3 weeks prior to the tournament to prepare. He is stateside and preparing to win that elusive first major.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matteo Berrettini is UNCOMMITTED<\/strong>. He last spoke about the issue <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/matteo-berrettini-refuses-to-commit-to-us-open-and-french-open-saying-i-cant-know-what-will-happen\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in July and said he wouldn&#8217;t commit to going<\/a>. Of course the Italian comes from an area that was hit as hard as New York City was.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Goffin is UNCOMMITTED<\/strong>. Like Berrettini, Goffin hasn&#8217;t made a final decision either way. The U.S. Open is allowing individuals to cancel up to the day of the tournament. Of course that one person is Rafael Nadal, one of the most iconic and important participants. Two others have yet to decide, though they have cited health concerns as reasons they would not attend.<\/p>\n<p>2020 might be the opportunity some need to establish themselves as the next best player. Outside of Djokovic, not a single one of the other Top 10 players in attendance has won a Major. For some young guns like Tsitsipas and Zverev this could be their tournament.
