The exciting tennis continues from Russia with a full slate of scintillating matches! Who will win and who will fall? Read on to find out our Kremlin Cup thoughts!

WTA Kremlin Cup Day 3 Predictions

Polona Hercog vs Belinda Bencic/

Head-to-head: Bencic 1-0 Hercog

Polona Hercog battles Belinda Bencic for a spot in the quarterfinals of Moscow. Hercog played very well in comfortably beating Katerina Siniakova in the first round. Hercog saved 6/7 breaks points and converted on 4/5 break points on Siniakova’s serve. Bencic is playing her first match of the tournament, but struggled last week, losing her first match in Linz in three sets to Anna-Lena Friedsam.

The Swiss leads the head to head 1-0, having won on clay in three sets in 2014. Bencic needs a big week in order to make the WTA Finals in Shenzhen. That could be why she faltered last week, as she was possibly feeling the pressure. Hercog will try to keep Bencic off-balance with her variety and is not a player who you want to face when a little nervous. Hercog played well in the first round and I think she upsets Bencic here.
Prediction: Hercog in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Anna Kalinskaya vs Ekaterina Alexandrova

Head-to-head: Alexandrova 2-0 Kalinskaya

Anna Kalinskaya takes on Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round of Moscow. Kalinskaya picked up a three-set win over Anastasia Potapova in the first round. Alexandrova comfortably beat Jana Cepelova in her first round match.

Alexandrova leads the head to head 2-0, including a straight sets win on an indoor hard court in St. Petersburg earlier this season. Alexandrova is so good on indoor hard courts, as her serve and groundstrokes really shine. I expect Alexandrova to overpower Kalinskaya and make the quarterfinals in Moscow.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Dayana Yastremska vs Kirsten Flipkens

Head-to-head: first meeting

A trip to the quarterfinals of Moscow is at stake when Dayana Yastremska battles Kirsten Flipkens. Yastremska beat reigning champion Daria Kasatkina in the first round, winning in straight sets. Yastremska is playing the tennis of her life this season. Flipkens qualified for the tournament without dropping a set and beat Natalia Vikhlyantseva in the first round in straight sets.

These two have never played before. Yastremska is going to look to overpower Flipkens. However, Flipkens can frustrate Yastremska with her variety. Flipkens’ backhand slice is nasty and she is good at the net. However, given how Yastremska has played both this season, but also in that first match against Kasatkina, Expect Yastremska to eventually figure out the Flipkens game and move on.
Prediction: Yastremska in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Donna Vekic vs Karolina Muchova

Head-to-head: first meeting

Donna Vekic battles Karolina Muchova in the second round of Moscow. Vekic is playing in her first match of the tournament, but did play on indoor hard in Linz last week. Vekic beat Hercog in the first round, but lost in the second round to Kiki Mladenovic. Muchova comfortably beat Svetlana Kuznetsova in the first round, winning 50% of first serve return points and 47% of second serve return points.

These two have never played before. Vekic has a big sere and big groundstrokes. Muchova will try to use variety to throw Vekic off of her game. This match will be tight, but Muchova will be confident based on her recent form (she won her first title in September in Seoul) and her play in the first round. In addition, Vekic did not play well against Mladenovic. Therefore, Muchova will win a tight match and advance to the quarterfinals.
Prediction: Muchova in 3

Main Photo from Getty.

Day 3 of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow is here!
