With the ATP Tour setting its sights on the North American hard court swing, inevitable withdrawals have hit in an increasingly popular <\/span>part of the season to skip<\/span><\/a>. There are nine withdrawals across the 500 in D.C. and the 250 in Los Cabos ahead of the mandatory tournaments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Which Players Have Withdrawn from ATP D.C.?<\/h4>\n

After a Wimbledon quarterfinal run and <\/span>a split with his coach<\/span><\/a>, Felix Auger-Aliassime is delaying his return to the court, withdrawing from D.C. to instead come back at his home tournament in Montreal. Sitting at a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world, there is little need for him to rush back to play. His replacement on the entry list, Ethan Quinn, also withdrew, pulling out after the draw was made due to a foot injury.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another player withdrawing after a coaching shakeup is Daniil Medvedev. Coming off a string of strange losses, Medvedev won\u2019t be playing D.C. this year. The North American hard court swing is typically one of Medvedev\u2019s strongest parts of the season, and this year he\u2019ll get things going in Montreal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Arthur Rinderknech has also withdrawn from the tournament. Rinderknech played in both weeks in between Wimbledon and D.C. but won only one match across both weeks, and the one win was a hard-fought three-setter. Rinderknech is top 30 in the rankings but outside the top 60 in the race, so he\u2019s in need of some points to keep his ranking afloat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who Replaced Those Players in the Main Draw?<\/h4>\n

Quinn\u2019s withdrawal after replacing Auger-Aliassime freed up a lucky loser spot in the draw, which was claimed by Zachary Svajda. In his second-round qualifying match, Svajda was cruising at first but ended up retiring early in the third set. Despite the injury, Svajda made it into the main draw. He didn\u2019t land in Quinn\u2019s exact spot, which would have had him facing second seed Ben Shelton in the first round. Instead, Svajda will play qualifier Aleksander Vukic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Replacing Medvedev is Terence Atmane, who was just outside the cutline of the original entry list. Atmane\u2019s last appearance on the court was a first-round loss to Frances Tiafoe at Wimbledon\u2014who he will be playing yet again in the first round of D.C.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming in on a protected ranking, Juncheng Shang took the place of Rinderknech. Shang hasn\u2019t played since Dubai in February, and missing out on qualifying could be detrimental as Shang will now have to play himself into form in the main draw.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Which Players Have Withdrawn from ATP Los Cabos?<\/h4>\n

Five players have withdrawn from Los Cabos, and all of them are Argentinian. The most notable is Sebastian Baez, who was unable to take advantage of the post-Wimbledon clay 250s the way he tends to, falling in the quarterfinals of both. Similarly, Mariano Navone\u2019s results on his preferred surface were lackluster by his standards, and he won\u2019t be playing Los Cabos either.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Roman Andres Burruchaga withdrew following a stint in European clay in both 250s and Challengers. One of his best recent results was his defeat of Camilo Ugo Carabelli in Umag, another player who has withdrawn from this tournament. The last withdrawal comes from Thiago Agustin Tirante, who gave a walkover in his last match.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who Replaced Those Players in the Main Draw?<\/h4>\n

Gabriel Diallo, a player on the verge of falling out of the top 100 after struggling to string wins together this season, took the place of Baez. Sitting all the way at No. 141 in the year-end race, Diallo is in desperate need of a good result.<\/span><\/p>\n

Replacing Burruchaga, Coleman Wong will play in his first Tour-level main draw since the French Open, dodging qualifying. Dalibor Svrcina, searching for his first main-draw win at the Tour level since Indian Wells, took advantage of Ugo Carabelli\u2019s withdrawal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Michael Zheng<\/a>, who is just starting to play on the ATP Tour full-time following his graduation from Columbia, replaced Tirante. This week Zheng reached a new career high of No. 118 in the world and will take on seventh seed Martin Landaluce for the chance to rise even higher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, Navone\u2019s late withdrawal freed up a lucky loser spot in the draw.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
