He didn’t lose focus in the semifinals, taking care of Hugo Gaston in straight sets. Van Assche has moved up to No. 65 in the ATP world rankings. If he wins this match, he will rise all the way into the top 50, which would be a career-high ranking. He started the tournament at No. 78, so he could rise more than 25 spots in the rankings if he can claim this ATP 250 title. He has had a difficult bracket, but it hasn’t mattered. He has answered every challenge he has faced.<\/p>\n

Alexander Blockx pulled off one of the most incredible comebacks of the 2026 tennis season in the other ATP Estoril semifinal. He was down a set and 5-2 to Luciano Darderi, the No. 2 seed who was rolling along and about to earn a spot in the final. Somehow, Blockx was able to turn the match around. He won the second set and then engaged Darderi in a very close third set which went to a tiebreaker. Blockx fell behind 4-0 in that tiebreaker but was able to mount one more rally and win. The final score: 5-7 7-6 7-6. Blockx even wrote on the courtside camera, after the match was over, that this was the craziest match of his life. He knew he had done something improbable.<\/p>\n
