This ATP 250 tournament is one of three such events on the calendar this week. The brief but meaningful post-Wimbledon clay swing is tailor-made for strong clay players who didn’t win much on grass and therefore didn’t get to play much. Those players are generally fresh and have a chance to win a trophy while also getting some rhythm and confidence on court before going to North America for the pre-U.S. Open summer hardcourt swing. The ATP Gstaad event, as noted above, has arrived at the quarterfinals. This is where the raw value of a win in terms of point totals and prize money begins to get substantial. Wimbledon is the ultimate in high-stakes tennis, but for some of these players, it might feel like a Major tournament. Take note: One of the four quarterfinals has not yet been set. Two Round of 16 matches were suspended from Thursday and will be completed on Friday before the quarterfinals. The winners will meet in the last match of the day. Therefore, only three quarterfinal matches (with odds) are confirmed. LWOS has our best bets for those three matches. Cerundolo and Ruud have accumulated a lot of clay match wins this year. Cerundolo is 22-11 on the surface while Ruud is 17-5. Both players earned tough three-set wins earlier this week in Switzerland. Cerundolo beat Miomir Kecmanovic, while Ruud lost the first set but then battled back to outlast Jaime Faria. Cerundolo versus Kecmanovic figured to be an intense, extended battle, and it was. We thought Ruud would smoothly move past Faria in straights but were wrong, with Faria playing a very strong first set before Ruud regrouped and rallied. Will Ruud be able to improve his level of performance to the extent that he can win in straight sets here?

Best Bet to Make

Welcome to our best bet section. You’re going to get a collection of bets to consider, also a confidence level which should guide how much you should invest in this match.

Parlay options: Ruud moneyline at 1.36 at @WilliamHill, Cerundolo plus 4.5 games at 1.73 at @bet365

Confidence level on a scale of 1-10: 4 – don’t bet more than half a unit on this match.

Ruud not being able to beat Faria in straights, in a match where we assigned a comparatively higher level of confidence to our bet, makes us a lot less willing to apply a high confidence level to this match. However, Ruud winning in straights is still an attractive play. We just aren’t as bullish on it, but it still makes sense. Keep in mind that Cerundolo is getting plus 4.5 games at 1.73, a really good price. You can put that parlay piece in place or even make a small independent wager on it, and you can put that up against Ruud winning in straights. You might be able to cash two tickets if the scoreline is 6-4 6-4 or 6-4 7-5.

That being said, betting on Ruud winning 2:0 is the best bet you can make.

Value bet/ the best odds: Ruud winning 2:0 at 2.10 @betway

Raphael Collignon – Valentin Vacherot: 4:30 EST

H2H: 1-1

Raphael Collignon has produced a strong clay tennis season. He is 15-3 in 18 matches on the surface. Clearly, he knows how to handle himself on the surface and find ways to get past opponents of various kinds. He beat Ben Shelton at Roland-Garros and reached the third round. He is rising in the rankings and is proving to be a tough out. Valentin Vacherot came to this ATP Gstaad event having not played a tour match since Roland-Garros due to injury. He rose up and played well in his first match of the week, beating Yannick Hanfmann. We told you not to bet on that match, and you saw why. It’s really hard to evaluate players when coming off long injury layoffs.

Best Bet to Make

Parlay options: Collignon moneyline at 1.65 at @betway, Vacherot +1.5 sets at 1.52 @unibet

Confidence level on a scale of 1-10: 1 – you shouldn’t bet on this match.

We’re going to stick with our “stay away from Vacherot matches” approach for the time being. It’s just too slippery and uncertain to think you know how an athlete will react after a long injury break. Vacherot was not that hampered against Hanfmann, but Hanfmann is not an especially strong player. Collignon is a much more in-form player, especially on clay. Does one win make us convinced Vacherot is ready to get back to normal service and a high standard of results? No. It’s just too early. We’re not saying you should bet on Collignon to win (though a moneyline parlay piece makes sense), only that it’s really uncertain what will happen here. We’re going to recommend that you not bet on this match, but if you do, over 2.5 sets is the obvious solution.

That being said, betting on over 2.5 sets is the best bet you can make

Value bet/ the best odds: over 2.5 sets @2.30 @10bet

Arthur Rinderknech – Stefanos Tsitsipas: 11:30 EST

H2H: 0-1

Arthur Rinderknech and Stefanos Tsitsipas came to this ATP Gstaad event and pulled off difficult three-set wins over lower-name opponents. Rinderknech needed three sets to beat Clement Tabur, while Tsitsipas barely scraped by Jerome Kym in a cliffhanger. Now the two men meet in the quarterfinals. These are talented but inconsistent players. Rinderknech gave Novak Djokovic a tough four-set battle at Wimbledon a few weeks ago. Tsitsipas has reached multiple Major finals, including on clay at Roland-Garros, but is now a shell of the player he once was. Which player can you trust here, if any?

Best Bet to Make

Parlay options: Tsitsipas moneyline at 1.67 at @bet365, Rinderknech +1.5 sets at 1.55 @betway

Confidence level on a scale of 1-10: 4 – You should not bet more than half a unit on this match.

The Rinderknech set spread bet is a parlay piece because its price isn’t quite high enough to recommend it as a high-dollar value bet. However, that particular bet (Rinderknech +1.5 sets) is probably the clearest play to make. Rinderknech is a top-30 player in the rankings, and is yet a very clear underdog to Tsitsipas, who has been struggling for a long time. There is value on Rinderknech here, but also value on the match being close and tough, probably enough to go into a third set. We don’t like betting on Tsitsipas to win because he is so unreliable, so our confidence level for the match is not especially high. Expecting the match to go three sets makes a lot of sense, but it’s an up-in-the-air kind of match. That is not the kind of situation conducive to a big bet.

That being said, betting on over 2.5 sets is the best bet you can make.

Value bet/ the best odds: over 2.5 sets @2.20 @10bet

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The ATP Gstaad tournament in Switzerland continues on Friday with quarterfinal action.
