It’s a week for players who either love clay tennis or who were not able to play much during grass season. Players who didn’t go deep at Wimbledon and need match play, either for rankings points or to simply regain physical stamina before the North American hardcourt season in August, are playing these ATP 250 events. ATP Umag is one of the three this week alongside Gstaad in Switzerland and Bastad in Sweden. You’re not going to find many top-20 players here, but you are going to find players hungry to do something while the elites stay home and recover from Wimbledon. LWOS has our best bets for three matches. Post your best bets and thoughts in the comments.

ATP Umag

Flavio Cobolli – Roman Andres Burruchaga: 12:00 EST

H2H: 0-1

The ATP Umag Round of 16 includes this very strange match. Flavio Cobolli is the World No. 9, having just made the Roland-Garros final and Wimbledon quarterfinals. He is playing Umag. Most tour pros in his position would not do this, but Cobolli has shown up in Croatia and intends on playing this small clay tournament. Roman Andres Burruchaga is World No. 67, a solid top-75 pro who isn’t elite but is fundamentally competent. No one would dispute that Cobolli is the better player, but will he be focused for this match?

Best Bet to Make

Welcome to our best bet section. Maybe Flavio Cobolli just wants a nice trip to Croatia to collect an appearance fee and maybe see a few sights. Purely in terms of tennis and what’s best for his career, his 2026 season, and his health, there’s just no good reason to be playing a 250 this week. Cobolli has played a truckload of tennis the past two months, going all the way to the Roland-Garros final and then making that run to the Wimbledon quarters. He played a lot of long and draining matches. Fatigue finally caught up with him when he lost to Arthur Fery in straight sets at Wimbledon. He was roasted and toasted. Cobolli needs to be resting, not playing. Betting on this match is a fool’s errand. No one disputes Cobolli is a far better player than Burruchaga, but he might not be motivated at all to play. Then again, he hasn’t pulled out of the tournament, so maybe he’s just going to play for enjoyment. It’s really hard to know, and that’s why no sane tennis bettor should go anywhere close to this match … but if you ask us for a bet, it’s Burruchaga on the game spread.

That being said, betting on Burruchaga +4.5 games is the best bet you can make.

Value bet/ the best odds: Burruchaga +4.5 games at 1.60 @10bet

Federico Agustin Gomez – Matteo Arnaldi: 10:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

ATP Umag continues with Matteo Arnaldi taking center stage against Federico Agustin Gomez. Arnaldi caught fire in Paris and made his way to the Roland-Garros semifinals a month ago. He was unable to play his semifinal due to bad health, but he still made his first Major semifinal and created one of the best memories of his ATP career. Arnaldi lost in the first round of Wimbledon, so the Italian, who is very comfortable on clay, got nearly two full weeks off as a result. He comes to Croatia fresh and intent on picking up some wins and points. His opponent, Federico Agustin Gomez, is ranked outside the top 200, so on paper, this would seem to be a match Arnaldi can handle.

Best Bet to Make

Parlay options: Gomez +4.5 games at 1.83 @bet365, Arnaldi moneyline at 1.30 at @bet365

Confidence level on a scale of 1-10: 8 – bet a full unit on this match. This is a very rare case of a match really worth betting on at an ATP 250 right after Wimbledon. Arnaldi has had two full weeks off, which is the main reason we are expressing confidence in our bet.

We have been unwilling to wager larger amounts of money (and recommend larger wagers for bettors) because this week on the tennis calendar can have so many wacky results as players return to clay after the grass season at small tournaments. You don’t know who is going to be more motivated or passionate. Some players might play this week just to test out some parts of their game before bigger tournaments in North America in August. It’s usually hard to get a handle on matches, so it’s notable when a match looks very clear-cut in terms of the right bet to make.

Arnaldi being physically fresh, and having established a high standard of play on clay in 2026, makes him the obvious and heavy favorite in this ATP Umag match. He’s the better player, which we all know, but the key is that he is likely to play well and live up to his top-35 ranking. It would feel like a mild surprise if Arnaldi does not win this match in straight sets.

That being said, betting on Arnaldi winning 2:0 is the best bet you can make.

Value bet/ the best odds: Arnaldi winning 2:0 @1.90 @betway

Pablo Carreno-Busta – Camilo Ugo Carabelli: 11:30 EST

H2H: 0-1

This is a tennis match worth watching if you can find it on television or a live stream. Is it worth betting on? That might be a different story, but it’s a quality match. Here’s why this is an interesting battle: Carreno-Busta has won 18 clay matches in 2026, while Ugo Carabelli has won 17. Both players are well above the .500 mark on clay and have been playing good ball in recent weeks. Carreno-Busta made the Round of 16 at the French Open and won a main-draw match at Wimbledon. Ugo Carabelli did not play as well as Carreno-Busta did at the Majors, but he won his first-round ATP Umag match after a brief and predictably unsuccessful grass season. Carreno-Busta is the sportsbooks’ favorite for a reason, but it’s not as though Ugo Carabelli is a tomato can on clay. Anything but.

Best Bet to Make

Parlay options: Carreno-Busta moneyline at 1.62 at @WilliamHill, Ugo Carabelli +1.5 sets at 1.55 @betway

Confidence level on a scale of 1-10: 3 – Bet no more than half a unit on this match.

The actual match should be quite compelling, but betting on this seems fraught with risk. You could just stick with two modest-value parlays and see if you can get both tickets to advance. Making one big bet on this match seems to offer more risk than reward. If you absolutely insist on making a bigger wager on this match, over 2.5 sets seems like the angle. Two good clay tennis players meeting early in a 250 could easily lead to both players trading blows and dragging each other into a third set. However, if Carreno-Busta wins in straights, which is very possible, that wager gets blown up. That’s why we’re cautious about this bet.

That being said, betting on over 2.5 sets is the best bet you can make.

Value bet/ the best odds: over 2.5 sets @2.30 @betway

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The 2026 ATP Umag post-Wimbledon clay tennis tournament moves into the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
