Several excellent players, including two-time French Open runner-up Casper Ruud, and Alexander Bublik, are on the entry list. Five ATP stars removed themselves from the entry list, including a former Grand Slam runner-up.

Five Players Withdraw from the 2026 Swiss Open Gstaad

Which Players Have Withdrawn?

Matteo Berrettini was the most widely known name to withdraw from the Swiss Open Gstaad. The 2021 Wimbledon runner-up reached the third round at this year’s iteration at SW19, including beating Stan Wawrinka in his final appearance at the tournament. Grigor Dimitrov ended his run. Following that defeat, Berrettini revealed that he had been diagnosed with chronic hip pain and advised by doctors to rest to ensure his involvement in the events held before the 2026 US Open.

Jan-Lennard Struff was the second player to withdraw from the Swiss Open Gstaad. He reached his maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, overcoming former semifinalists Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz before falling to the eventual champion Jannik Sinner. The 36-year-old has no confirmed injury and is likely just recovering after his impressive result at the season’s third Grand Slam.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="7cb01038c3a13bcbaf0de8af7020f6a5" image-id="8FQbXEaQyXx8" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4869px; aspect-ratio: 4869/3248;" ></smartframe-embed>

Benjamin Bonzi will also miss the 250-level clay-court tournament. The Frenchman withdrew in the fifth set of his opening round match at Wimbledon against Gabriel Diallo while trailing 1-3. That issue has proven too challenging to overcome, meaning he cannot compete in Switzerland.

Francisco Comesana and Mattia Bellucci were the other men who elected to withdraw from the Swiss Open Gstaad. Comesana, a clay-court specialist, was set to play at a Challenger event in Germany last week but could not due to an injury. Bellucci missed Wimbledon because of a knee issue that he sustained during a warm-up at the prestigious tournament, and he is still not ready to compete.

Who Replaced Those Players on the Entry List?

Stan Wawrinka was the most significant name to move onto the entry list. The three-time Major champion took Comesana’s place. He would have received a wild card for his final appearance in front of home support at the Swiss Open Gstaad, but did not need it due to Comesana’s decision not to compete. Wawrinka is still competing at a high level in his final season as a professional despite being 41, giving him a decent chance of finishing at the event with at least one victory.

Jaime Faria benefited from Berrettini’s withdrawal. The young Portuguese player has had good results this year, including reaching the French Open third round as a qualifier. He was one set from the fourth round before Frances Tiafoe launched a dramatic comeback after dropping the opening two sets. Alexander Shevchenko, Quentin Halys, and Alexandre Muller were the other men to be given a spot on the entry list. Shevchenko is particularly talented, and many feel the Kazakhstani could achieve much more if he became consistent.

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images

Next week’s post-Wimbledon tournaments on the ATP Tour will all take place on clay, including the 2026 Swiss Open Gstaad.
