This is a great opportunity to pick up points as many players aren\u2019t in tournaments this week, but 15 withdrawals across the tournaments have changed both fields.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Which Players Have Withdrawn from Athens?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Athens, played on outdoor hardcourt, has eight total withdrawals in women\u2019s singles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maya Joint, coming off her <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2026\/06\/30\/serena-williams-maya-joint\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defeat of Serena Williams<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the first round of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/category\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Wimbledon<\/a>, withdrew from the tournament. Joint has been struggling with a back injury all season, and though the win against Williams seems like an indication of a bounce-back, Joint still isn\u2019t at the Top 30 level she achieved last year. This will be an opportunity for Joint to rest and prepare for the second half of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A high-profile withdrawal came from Eva Lys, who has fallen far from the career-high ranking she reached at the start of the year. Camila Osorio withdrew as well, far from her career-high ranking but on the right track as her second-round Wimbledon run pushed her up 15 spots in the WTA rankings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coming off a decent natural-surface swing, highlighted by a French Open fourth-round result, Diane Parry won\u2019t be playing Athens. Parry recently defeated Ella Seidel, who has also withdrawn following a first-round Wimbledon loss to eventual champion Linda Noskova.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lulu Sun, who has only played qualifying at Tour-level events since Charleston, missed out on a chance to get into a main draw with her withdrawal. Renata Zarazua and Dayana Yastremska round out the withdrawals.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Who Replaced Those Players in the Main Draw?<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By far the highest-profile alternate is Qinwen Zheng, who replaced Osorio on the entry list. Zheng, outside the top 100 following time away from the sport due to injuries, is slowly climbing her way back. Zheng is underranked compared to her talent and can take advantage of this draw if she\u2019s playing well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In something of a sophomore slump, Polina Kudermetova received a much-needed entry into this tournament due to Joint\u2019s withdrawal. This season hasn\u2019t lived up to her strong start from last year, but this could be a jumping off point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harriet Dart couldn\u2019t capitalize on her numerous wild cards during grass season but has been given a second chance with an entry here, replacing Parry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two alternates, Rebeka Masarova (replacing Seidel) and Carole Monnet (replacing Lys) will play against each other, marking an excellent opportunity for both alternates to get a win here and pick up some points. Not quite as lucky were Viktoriya Tomova and Sofia Costulas, replacing Yastremska and Sun, who will both play seeded players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final alternate is Aliaksandra Sasnovich, replacing Zarazua.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Which Players Have Withdrawn from Iasi?<\/h2>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Played on outdoor clay, Iasi features one fewer withdrawal than Athens, having seven players off the entry list.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After picking up an injury in the first round of Wimbledon, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2026\/06\/05\/maja-chwalinska-french-open-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roland Garros finalist<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Maja Chwalinska has withdrawn, unable to take advantage of her newfound high ranking. After gaining so much momentum from her French Open run, Chwalinska\u2019s injury is a massive setback to what should be a rise in her career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com\/news\/articles\/sorana-cirstea-announces-she-ll-retire-from-tennis-after-2026-season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sorana Cirstea<\/a> has withdrawn from this home tournament after winning another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2026\/02\/07\/what-went-wrong-for-raducanu-cluj-napoca-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">earlier this year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Cirstea has only been rising in the rankings since then and has just reached a new career high of No. 17 in the world. It makes sense for her to take this week off in spite of the chance to play in front of her home crowd.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After both falling to seventh seed and eventual semifinalist Coco Gauff at Wimbledon, Tamara Korpatsch and Solana Sierra will not be appearing in Iasi this week. Nadia Podoroska, who received entry into Wimbledon as an alternate, will now pay it forward as she has withdrawn. Podoroska was entered on a protected ranking along with Sara Sorribes Tormo, who also withdrew. Jil Teichmann will also not be participating.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Who Replaced Those Players in the Main Draw?<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benefiting from her compatriot Sorribes Tormo\u2019s withdrawal, Paula Badosa gained direct entry into the tournament. After a close first-round loss at Wimbledon, Badosa won a WTA 125 and is in good form heading into this tournament. She\u2019ll be a dangerous player to watch in the draw.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leolia Jeanjean made it into the tournament due to Korpatch\u2019s withdrawal, but will face top seed and home hope Jaqueline Cristian in the first round. And after losing to Simona Waltert in straight sets just last week, Katarzyna Kawa will face her once again after replacing Teichmann. The rest of the alternates have kinder draws, with Dominika Salkova replacing Cirstea and set to face a qualifier.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following Sierra\u2019s withdrawal, Alina Charaeva gained direct entry. Charaeva currently sits at a career high of No. 118 in the world and now has the potential to rise further.
