As always, we at LWOT offer our roundtable predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance?

Wimbledon Day 3 Predictions

Michael Zheng vs Nicolas Mejia

Zain
Both players have progressed to the second round through qualifying and now find themselves in a strong position to reach the third round of a Major. Nicolas Mejia relies on his baseline game, trying to be as aggressive as possible while ultimately winning points on the back of his physicality. At the same time, Michael Zheng trusts his aggression and big serve more. On grass, while Mejia has played some solid tennis throughout this tournament so far, I think Zheng’s serve could be the deciding factor in what should be a long, thrilling contest.
Prediction: Zheng in 5

Manuel
By ranking, this is the weakest match of the second round, and it also looks like a mismatch, with Zheng clearly the better player on this surface.
Prediction: Zheng in 3

Learner Tien vs Marton Fucsovics

Zain
Although still not at his comfortable best on grass, Learner Tien has now strung together a couple of positive matches on the surface. Against Marton Fucsovics, this match will likely be decided by which player has the better day from the baseline, as the Hungarian will look to frustrate the American into making errors. Although Fucsovics at his best would have been capable of doing so, his current level is far removed from that, which should give Tien plenty of opportunities to assert his patterns from the baseline and get the win here.
Prediction: Tien in 4

Manuel
Fucsovics has had some good results on grass, but at this point in their respective careers, Tien is clearly the better player and will be aiming at a deep run here.
Prediction: Tien in 4

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQP7tqinQJ" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6000px; aspect-ratio: 6000/4000;" ></smartframe-embed>

Fabian Marozsan vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Zain
This second-round encounter has the potential to be one of the matches of the tournament, given both players’ styles of play. Fabian Marozsan will look to implement his variety from the back of the court. In contrast, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will look to make this match physical, combining that with his aggressive play. In a best-of-five format, I think, given the Spaniard’s form, he should have just enough from the baseline to reach the third round.
Prediction: Davidovich Fokina in 5

Manuel
The pair faced each other in the Mallorca semifinals last week, with Fokina winning a tight match en route to his first-ever career title. This should be tight once again, but Fokina should edge it out at Wimbledon.
Prediction: Davidovich Fokina in 4

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Dino Prizmic

Zain
Dino Prizmic showed during the clay season that he can be a tough opponent to face, but unfortunately for him, his game does not translate as well to grass. On the other hand, Felix Auger-Aliassime, who throughout his career has struggled with consistency, is still a very capable player on this surface on the back of his big serve and incredible forehand. Expect the Canadian to rely on his weapons and reach the third round at Wimbledon.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 4

Manuel
Prizmic has shown a lot of promise in recent months, but he is still inexperienced on grass and will certainly struggle to deal with Aliassime’s superior serve and power on this surface.
Prediction: Aliassime in 4

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke – Imagn Images

The second round of Wimbledon is upon us, and it is already looking like we could be in store for another frenzied Grand Slam.
