Neither Irina Begu nor Katie Swan are elite tennis players, on grass or anywhere else. They are both ranked outside the top 170. They have both won three grass matches this year, which is respectable but hardly dominant. There is a lot of pressure attached to this match because of the points and prize money at stake. Which player will rise and which one will fall? WTA Wimbledon drama will be high in this match, with the added element being that Swan will play in front of a partisan British crowd. If you feel you have an angle on which player will win straight up, you should go ahead and bet on it, because you’ll get almost an even 2.00 price for a moneyline winner here. However, if you can’t separate the two players and identify a clear winner, the obvious go-to play is over 2.5 sets. This just doesn’t look like a clean and easy match that will go by quickly and will be dominated by one player. This is probably going to be a messy and difficult three-set match.

That being said, betting on over 2.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: over 2.5 sets @2.42 @betsson

Anisimova – Gjorcheska: Time 6:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Amanda Anisimova made the final of the WTA Wimbledon tournament last year. She lost to Iga Swiatek. She then made the US Open final as well, offering real hope that she would be able to win a major title this year. However, injuries have gotten in the way for Anisimova. She has had an uneven season and comes to the All-England Club trying to regroup while also defending her points from last year. Anisimova will try to play her way into the tournament and gain rhythm this week. Her opponent, Lina Gjorcheska, won three matches at Roehampton last week to qualify for the main draw.

Best Bet to Make

The price on Anisimova winning in straight sets is very small, so while you could fold that into a parlay, it’s not going to be a standalone bet. The game spread is where you need to go. The two evenly-priced spreads are 6.5 and 7.5 games. You can get Anisimova minus 6.5 games for 1.67, and you can get Gjorcheska plus 7.5 at 1.71. You can try to middle your bets and cash two tickets. Of the two bets, we will lean to Gjorcheska as our official recommended play because of Anisimova’s uneven season and the inconsistency attached to it.

That being said, betting on Gjorcheska +7.5 games is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Gjorcheska +7.5 games @1.71 @1xbet

Valentova – Pliskova: Time 6:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Karolina Pliskova is a former runner-up at this WTA Wimbledon tournament. The veteran tumbled in the rankings after taking time off for the birth of her child and for an injury requiring surgery. That’s quite a lot to deal with. Pliskova had to make a long climb to get back into the top 200, then the top 100. She had a great spring and will now try to put together a strong summer, beginning at the All-England Club. Her experience at this tournament should rate as an advantage. Interestingly, she is priced only as a slight favorite by the betting markets, rather than a heavy one. Do the markets see something the rest of us are overlooking?

Best Bet to Make

The fact that Pliskova has won five grass matches this season, compared to just two wins for Tereza Valentova, makes this an uneven comparison. One player is better than the other on grass. If you are searching for reasons why Pliskova isn’t a bigger favorite according to the betting markets, it could be that Valentova scored a solid win over Ajla Tomljanovic, a good grass player, in the warm-up tournaments before WTA Wimbledon. However, that doesn’t seem to be enough to override what Pliskova has achieved. Pliskova is the more proven player and is in good form. Pliskova moneyline has a very generous price, which is much too good to resist here.

That being said, betting on Pliskova winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Pliskova winning @1.82 @1xbet

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

WTA Wimbledon first-round play continues on Tuesday.
