And, as always, our team here at LastWordOnTennis will share their thoughts on every single match with you. We split the 32 matches between eight articles, with the other articles featuring Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Blockx<\/a>, Ben Shelton vs Otto Virtanen<\/a>, Alexander Bublik vs Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/a>, Alex de Minaur vs Roman Andres Burruchaga<\/a>, Matteo Arnaldi vs Quentin Halys<\/a>, Frances Tiafoe vs Terence Atmane<\/a>, and Jakub Mensik vs Toby Samuel<\/a>. Predicting these matches are Amanda Bergman, Cizu Harbor, and Tope Oke. Who do you think will advance?<\/p>\n

Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions<\/h2>\n

Vit Kopriva vs Jan Choinski<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\nBoth Vit Kopriva and Jan Choinski have played well on grass this season, setting up an interesting first-round clash. Neither have much experience in Grand Slam main draws and they haven\u2019t played each other before, marking uncharted waters for both. Kopriva is having the better season and coming into the match with more momentum, so he has the slight advantage.
\nPrediction: Kopriva in 5<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nVit Kopriva has had a couple of good grass court victories despite being most proficient on clay. Against Choinski, he’ll be playing a buoyed Brit in basically the twilight of his career who’s racked up a few good wins on the surface. Choinski will be fairly confident he can do something here in front of his people, and I think so too.
\nPrediction: Choinski in 5<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nVit Kopriva has shown flashes of form but his Wimbledon record remains a blank, with two first-round exits and counting. Jan Choinski, meanwhile, rides genuine momentum and he knows what second-round grass feels like after 2023. With a 2-1 head-to-head edge and home crowd energy behind him, Choinski should edge a tight one.

Daniel Altmaier vs Alex Molcan<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\nDaniel Altmaier had an excellent run in Halle and proved his quality on grass, but his last match ended in a retirement, opening a door for Alex Molcan. However, Altmaier has had time to recover and hasn\u2019t indicated a withdrawal, and if he\u2019s healthy then he is the heavy favorite in this match.
\nPrediction: Altmaier in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nI believe Almaier comes into this with a stronger body of work and more convincing grass-court abilities. I think Molcan could grab a set, but that’s as far as I’ll go. I expect the German to be better at important junctions.
\nPrediction: Altmaier in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nAlex Molcan reached the third round here four years ago, but his grass-court campaigns have virtually stalled. Daniel Altmaier, though, looks a different animal this summer: under Dustin Brown’s guidance. Fitness permitting, Altmaier is the clear favorite and if he’s moving freely, Molcan’s limited form makes him a tough sell to cause the upset.

Mackenzie McDonald vs Patrick Kypson<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\nPatrick Kypson hasn\u2019t played since Rome, while Mackenzie McDonald has gotten some reps in since the French Open and came through qualifying with only one set dropped. McDonald is in a rhythm of playing tennis and Kypson will certainly be rusty, so McDonald has the chance to take advantage.
\nPrediction: McDonald in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nAn all-American affair, but that’s as far as the similarities go, as both players come into this with different momentum. It is McDonald who arrives with a head of steam, and that should translate onto the courts in what should be a fairly comfortable outing for the older American.
\nPrediction: McDonald in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nPatrick Kypson steps onto the Wimbledon<\/a> main draw stage for the first time, carrying more question marks than a qualifier’s sheet, no competitive tennis since Rome, an abdominal strain that cost him Roland Garros, and zero grass-court miles in his legs. McDonald, by contrast, arrives sharp and battle-tested, having swept through qualifying with straight-set efficiency, and his 2018 run to the round of 16 proves he knows how to navigate this surface. Barring a dramatic rust-buster from Kypson whose only ATP scalp this year was de Minaur in Mexico, McDonald’s momentum should carry the day.
\nPrediction: McDonald in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Stan Wawrinka vs Matteo Berrettini<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\nMatteo Berrettini\u2019s matches always depend on injuries, but if he\u2019s healthy then Stan Wawrinka on the verge of retirement isn\u2019t someone that can defeat Berrettini at Wimbledon. Berrettini hasn\u2019t yet played on grass, but these are courts where he tends to thrive and it\u2019s far less physical than clay is. Wawrinka could grab a set, but it\u2019s hard to see him maintaining a high level long enough to win this match.
\nPrediction: Berrettini in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nOn a surface that brings out the best of Berrettini, whilst still not demanding quite as much from the Italians fragile body, and against a player like Wawrinka, who is basically on his farewell tour, there’s only one likely way this one goes. The crowd will do their best to galvanize the outgoing Swiss, but unless Berrettini is back to full fitness, this should be a straight-sets victory.
\nPrediction: Berrettini in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nStan Wawrinka’s Wimbledon farewell brings him face-to-face with a familiar foe, Matteo Berrettini, the 2021 finalist whose thunderous serve and grass-court instincts make him the clear favorite here. The Italian arrives with questions after retiring hurt at Roland Garros<\/a>, but has been cleared to play, and Wimbledon<\/a>, where he reached the final five years ago, tends to bring out the best in him. Wawrinka, chasing closure at the only Slam that eluded him, has the pride and the game to steal a set, but expect Berrettini to advance.
