We split the 32 matches between eight articles, with the other articles featuring Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Blockx<\/a>, Ben Shelton vs Otto Virtanen<\/a>, Alexander Bublik vs Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/a>, Alex de Minaur vs Roman Andres Burruchaga<\/a>, Frances Tiafoe vs Terence Atmane<\/a>, Stan Wawrinka vs Matteo Berrettini<\/a>, and Jakub Mensik vs Toby Samuel<\/a>. Predicting these matches are Amanda Bergman, Cizu Harbor, and Tope Oke. Who do you think will advance?<\/p>\n

Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions<\/h2>\n

Jiri Lehecka vs Alexei Popyrin<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\nAlexei Popyrin has lost both grass matches he\u2019s played this season, while Jiri Lehecka\u2019s grass losses both came down to third-set tiebreaks. In best-of-five with more room for mistakes, Lehecka should be just fine against an opponent who isn\u2019t as comfortable on the surface as he is.
\nPrediction: Lehecka in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nYou wouldn’t want to be the tennis ball in this one, with the way these two smack the ball. Lehecka has been having a very good season, but has come off the boil a bit recently. Poyrin, on the other hand, has drifted into a bad place with four straight losses. Barring a wild day, Lehecka should take this.
\nPrediction: Lehecka in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nAlexei Popyrin offers little comfort on grass so far: defeats to Raphael Collignon and Jan Choinski in Halle and Eastbourne paint a picture of a player who has yet to rediscover his grass-court footing. Jiri Lehecka’s flat groundstrokes and aggressive net game should be too much for the Australian. Back the Czech to advance without too much drama.

Tallon Griekspoor vs James Duckworth<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\n Tallon Griekspoor has had an up-and-down season, but he has a good opportunity for his first win at a Grand Slam this year, as James Duckworth had a poor grass season and hasn\u2019t really been a factor at Grand Slams. Griekspoor needs this win, and if he keeps his head in it and just plays his game it should go his way.
\nPrediction: Griekspoor in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nGriekspoor has had his problems recently, but a player of Duckworth’s quality shouldn’t be a problem for him. I expect the Dutchman to take control of this match from the get-go and advance to the next round practically untroubled.
\nPrediction: Griekspoor in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nTallon Griekspoor has had a stuttering season with 15 losses from 26 matches, including two defeats in three grass-court warmup appearances, and a Wimbledon ceiling that has never stretched past the second round. Duckworth is hardly a formidable obstacle, though the Australian’s gritty baseline game tends to extract something from opponents who aren’t fully switched on. Expect Griekspoor to edge through, but Duckworth will make him work for every game.

Zachary Svajda vs Pablo Llamas Ruiz<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\nIn a Wimbledon main draw debut for both players, Zachary Svajda has the advantage over Pablo Llamas Ruiz. Svajda is coming off his best Grand Slam run yet and is certainly on the rise, while Llamas Ruiz is in this tournament as a lucky loser, having suffered a third-round loss in qualifying.
\nPrediction: Svajda in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nThe Spaniard got some luck, entering this one as a lucky loser. He’ll need more of that luck if he is to get through Svajda. The American hasn’t had the best time this grass season, but he is a solid player and will hand over very little to Llamas Ruiz. If the Spaniard is to emerge victorious, he’ll have to earn it, and I don’t see it.
\nPrediction: Svajda in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nZachary Svajda enters Wimbledon<\/a> on the back of a breakthrough Roland Garros run, but he has gone cold since. Pablo Llamas Ruiz arrives as a lucky loser with nothing to lose and a clay pedigree that rarely translates to grass, making his Wimbledon debut at the worst possible surface. Svajda’s serve and youth should be enough to hold here so back the American to bounce back and reassert himself.
\nPrediction: Svajda in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Matteo Arnaldi vs Quentin Halys<\/h4>\n

Amanda:<\/em>
\nNeither Matteo Arnaldi nor Quentin Halys are strong grass-court players, but Arnaldi is playing better tennis right now and is coming off the best Grand Slam run of his career. This match could be close, but it should swing the way of Arnaldi.
\nPrediction: Arnaldi in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Cizu:<\/em>
\nArnaldi, the surprise package of the French Open, will be hoping for a similar run at Wimbledon. Against Halys, though, he faces a tricky opening match. The Frenchman has not been in the best of form, but stylistically, he’s a bad match-up for Arnaldi, as his explosiveness will not allow for many of the rallies that suit Arnaldi.
\nPrediction: Halys in 4<\/em><\/p>\n

Tope:<\/em>
\nMatteo Arnaldi arrives at Wimbledon<\/a> on the back of a breakthrough clay season which included a stunning run to the Roland Garros semifinals, but grass remains uncharted territory, and an opening-round Eastbourne did little to inspire confidence. Halys, by contrast, has decent pedigree on the lawns, and the Frenchman\u2019s flat, aggressive ball-striking better suited to the surface, Arnaldi’s vulnerability on grass makes Halys the pick here.
