But who will reach the second round?

Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions

Alexandra Eala vs Renata Zarazua

Zain: Renata Zarazua is known for her game on slower clay courts, where she can grind out results. On the faster grass, it is highly unlikely she has as much success. Up against Alexandra Eala, who has shown that grass is arguably her best surface at the moment, expect the Filipino to use her cleaner hitting to reach the second round.

Prediction: Eala in 2

Ilemona: Eala has continued her impressive rise by backing up breakthrough wins with greater consistency across all surfaces. Zarazua is a determined competitor, but Eala’s left-handed patterns and confidence should help her control the key exchanges.

Prediction: Eala in 2

Jordan: Both women are great athletes, which means there should be several lengthy rallies. Eala’s game is better suited to grass, mostly because of her excellent return. That makes the young star the more likely winner.

Prediction: Eala in 3

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="3ec16c2e89be0acadd2b088db7a33eb9" image-id="imbrH5BtNO9g" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5315px; aspect-ratio: 5315/3543;" ></smartframe-embed>

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Maria Timofeeva

Zain: Maria Timofeeva played some positive tennis throughout the qualifying rounds on her way to making the main draw, using her aggressive baseline style. Now up against Beatriz Haddad Maia, a player who likes to stick to the baseline and use her physicality and lefty angles, this match will likely come down to whether Timofeeva’s attack can outclass Haddad Maia’s defensive abilities. On the faster grass, I lean towards the attacking player in a match that I predict will go to three sets.

Prediction: Timofeeva in 3

Ilemona: Haddad Maia’s left-handed serve and willingness to move forward make her a difficult opponent on grass when she finds her rhythm. Timofeeva is capable of producing high-level tennis, but Haddad Maia’s experience on the surface should help her navigate a potentially tricky opener.

Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3

Jordan: 2026 has been an awful year for Haddad Maia so far. There are only a few players in the draw I would back her to beat right now. The talented Timofeeva is not one of them.

Prediction: Timofeeva in 2

Sofia Kenin vs Petra Marcinko

Zain: At her best, this is a match in which Sofia Kenin’s baseline play would have earned her the victory, but the American is now far removed from her best level, and Petra Marcinko is a young player on the rise. Expect the youngster to take more initiative from the baseline and use her aggressive play to secure a well-deserved second-round appearance at Wimbledon.

Prediction: Marcinko in 3

Ilemona: Kenin’s ability to redirect pace has always made her dangerous on faster courts at Wimbledon, particularly against opponents who like to dictate. Marcinko is an exciting young player, but Kenin’s experience in Grand Slams could prove invaluable in the biggest moments.

Prediction: Kenin in 3

Jordan: Marcinko had a terrific run to the semifinal in Eastbourne ahead of Wimbledon. Kenin has generally been finding things difficult in 2026. The improving Marcinko is backed to triumph.

Prediction: Marcinko in 2

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBk8TIGzck" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000/1759;" ></smartframe-embed>

Marta Kostyuk vs Nadia Podoroska

Zain: Although Nadia Podoroska has the aggressive baseline style that can be effective on faster courts, Marta Kostyuk has shown this year that at her best she can consistently play at a top-10 level. And although the Ukrainian is not as proven on grass as she is on clay and hard courts, expect her to use her baseline skills to reach the second round.

Prediction: Kostyuk in 3

Ilemona: Kostyuk has developed into a much stronger grass-court player thanks to her improved serve and willingness to attack. Podoroska is more comfortable constructing points on slower surfaces, and Kostyuk’s ability to take the initiative should help her advance to the second round at Wimbledon.

Prediction: Kostyuk in 2

Jordan: Kostyuk is most susceptible to an upset on grass. However, Podoroska is unlikely to take that opportunity. The Argentine plays her best tennis by far on clay, not on grass.

Prediction: Kostyuk in 2

Main photo credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images

The stage is set for an exciting second day at the Championships with 32 matches on the slate on day two.
