Just on the eve of this year\u2019s Wimbledon<\/a> Championships, the tournament suffered a blow as Emma Raducanu announced that she will unfortunately not be taking part in this year\u2019s championships due to injury.<\/p>\n

Seeded for the tournament in large part thanks to her run to the final at Queen\u2019s leading up to Wimbledon, Raducanu announced on her social media that she will not be participating in the biggest event in her home country despite having tried her best to do so.<\/p>\n

Emma Raducanu Withdraws From Wimbledon<\/h2>\n

Despite arriving at Wimbledon with the intention to play, it was a commonly known secret that Raducanu was nursing a lower-leg injury, which also played a part in her withdrawal from the lead-up tournament in Nottingham. But despite that, the Brit, who was scheduled to play at 1 PM local time on Court 1 tomorrow, consistently maintained that she would do everything she could to be ready for the tournament<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to do everything with my team in terms of treatment. That\u2019s the plan right now, to play. I have a lower leg niggle that I\u2019ve been dealing with since before Queen\u2019s, actually from the back end of the clay-court season\u2026 I think there are certain tournaments you\u2019re willing to do more for, put yourself on the line more for, risk more for. For me, of course, Wimbledon is that.\u201d<\/p>\n

But just hours before she was set to take the court, Raducanu announced that she would be withdrawing from the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi everyone, I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m saying this, but sadly I\u2019ve had to withdraw from this year\u2019s Wimbledon. I\u2019ve done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow, but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I\u2019ve been managing has developed into a stress fracture and I\u2019ve been medically advised to stop pushing through. Playing at Wimbledon, in front of a home crowd, means everything to me, so this is really difficult to process. I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement. Especially at a time like this, it is invaluable. I look forward to seeing you when I\u2019m back.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Another Injury Setback for Raducanu<\/h3>\n

Injuries have unfortunately been a consistent theme throughout Raducanu\u2019s career, as she has suffered various setbacks over the past couple of years that have kept her out of competition for months. A similar situation occurred at the end of last season<\/a>, when she was forced to end her campaign prematurely.<\/p>\n

While that played a part in Raducanu not starting 2026 in the best of form, she had slowly and steadily begun rebuilding her level, reaching the finals in both Cluj-Napoca and, more recently, Queen\u2019s Club. While a title has consistently eluded her since her breakthrough triumph at the US Open in 2021, the Brit has shown over the past year or so that, at her best, she is capable of playing some excellent tennis.<\/p>\n

This latest setback will not be easy to deal with, given the tournament she will miss because of it, but similar to what she said in her statement, her fans will be eagerly looking forward to seeing her back on a tennis court.<\/p>\n
