Since lucky losers exist at just about every tournament, the winners of these second-round qualifying matches will put themselves in a position to potentially benefit from a lucky loser situation. These are extremely important matches for the players involved, even though the full attention of the tennis world will be split, with action at Bad Homburg and Eastbourne in addition to these qualifying rounds at Roehampton. A lot of players who load up on clay get to grass and can’t play well. They look out of their element and struggle to move well on the lawns. It’s a very different surface and a very different kind of tennis. Grant did really well to beat Taylah Preston as an underdog in the first round of qualifying. She won in three sets and has to be confident going into this next match. Joanna Garland should feel the same way. She was a huge underdog to Celine Naef but found a way to win in three sets. Two players are coming off thrilling underdog wins. Grant is the market favorite here, though not a massive one.

Best Bet to Make

Grant moneyline is 1.77. For a player who has just shown she can win on grass as an underdog, that’s a pretty good price. If you wanted to make that your bet or part of a parlay, that would make plenty of sense. However, we are going to go in a different direction. Both players won their previous matches in three sets. They both won as underdogs. It might be easy to take Grant as the favorite, but it seems that this WTA Wimbledon match going three sets is almost as likely as Grant winning. If two outcomes both seem very realistic, why not go with the bet that provides a bigger return? We’re talking about over 2.5 sets. Two non-grass specialists playing a long grass match in qualifying seems right.

That being said, betting on over 2.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: over 2.5 sets @2.45 @bet-at-home

Adeshina – Tan: Time 6:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Esther Adeshina pulled off one of the bigger upsets you will see in the first round of WTA Wimbledon qualifying. She was priced on the moneyline at just under 5.20, but she beat massive favorite Moyuka Uchijima. It was a massive moneyline payoff if you had an Adeshina ticket. Now Adeshina is an even bigger moneyline underdog against Harmony Tan, priced over 7.00. It’s really interesting that the price moved in that direction even after Adeshina won. Is this too good to be true? Is Tan about to win a blowout, or will this match once again be close?

Best Bet to Make

In our WTA Wimbledon first-round qualifying betting analysis, we told you to take Adeshina on the game spread against Uchijima. We didn’t imagine that Adeshina would win outright, but nevertheless, we did sense she was being undervalued. We’re not going to change our view here. The prices seem way out of line. We still don’t think Adeshina will win and advance to the final round of WTA Wimbledon qualifying, but we do think this will be a competitive match. The game spread is large. You can get a really good price on Adeshina plus 6.5 games. There’s little reason not to try this bet again. It already cashed once if you followed our advice earlier this week.

That being said, betting on Adeshina +6.5 games is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Adeshina +6.5 games @1.84 @1xbet

Sun – Dodin: Time 6:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Oceane Dodin was a 1.63 moneyline favorite for her WTA Wimbledon first-round qualifying match against Laura Pigossi, despite the fact that she had not played a single grass match coming into the tournament. Also, Dodin’s WTA ranking of 473 was roughly 230 spots lower than Pigossi. Yet, the markets and the books knew what they were doing. Dodin posted a solid win. Now, the markets have Dodin as a considerable underdog (3.62 moneyline) against Lulu Sun. Why is this the case? Sun is ranked higher, but has also played five grass matches this season and has some rhythm on the surface. Pigossi did not. Let’s see if Dodin can get on a run here.

Best Bet to Make

The fact that Oceane Dodin won the first round of the WTA Wimbledon qualifying might be more of a reflection on the lack of quality in her opponent, Laura Pigossi. The Italian was not comfortable on grass, and it showed. Now, Lulu Sun is a very different kind of player, someone who is used to grass and knows how to play on the surface. Sun has had more match play in recent weeks and should be in better rhythm compared to Pigossi. Dodin beating a mediocre opponent should not mean she is suddenly ready to get on a roll. Sun moneyline doesn’t have a high price, so go with the set spread. Sun should be able to bring this match home in straight sets.

That being said, betting on Sun winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Sun winning 2:0 @1.82 @1xbet

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

WTA Wimbledon second-round qualifying takes place on Wednesday.
