This is week two of the three-week pre-Wimbledon grass tune-up season. Having just three weeks to get ready for a major tournament is difficult enough. Doing it on grass, by far the least-played surface on the tour compared to hardcourts, indoor hardcourts, and clay, is even more difficult. Players are taking their annual crash course on grass, a surface they have no reason to train on in the offseason because of how little the surface is used. This is the one month of the year when grass expertise is necessary. It’s why it’s hard for players to make decisions on playing or not playing Wimbledon warm-up events. Starodubtseva scored a very big win at Roland-Garros by beating No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina. That was on clay, however, a surface where Rybakina does not play nearly as well as on grass or hardcourt. It will be interesting to see if Starodubtseva can carry what she did on clay to grass. Navarro was having a tough year, but she began to play better in recent weeks. She won six matches in a row before losing in the second round of the French Open. Having begun to play better, Navarro hopes to put together a strong grass season leading into the hardcourt summer in North America.

Best Bet to Make

The fact that Navarro has begun doing better after struggling for a large portion of her 2026 season offers plenty of reason to think the American can win this match in a straightforward way. Navarro is the higher-ranked player in this matchup, but we often see a lot of match scenarios in which the higher-ranked player is not an in-form player and is therefore vulnerable to defeat. Navarro’s form is solid enough to merit confidence. Navarro moneyline doesn’t offer that much of a price, so you should fold that into a parlay. Your standalone wager should be Navarro to win in straight sets.

That being said, betting on Navarro winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Navarro winning 2:0 @2.10 @Coral

Volynets – Bouzas Maneiro: Time 7:30 EST

H2H: 0–1

Katie Volynets faces Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the Nottingham Round of 16. Volynets is off to a great start in this grass season. She is 5-1 in six matches and is coming off a win as a moneyline underdog against McCartney Kessler. We thought that betting over 2.5 sets was the right play in that match, but the right bet should have been Volynets moneyline. She went off as a 2.13 underdog but won in straight sets over Kessler. Bouzas Maneiro had lost three matches in a row but finally snapped that streak with a first-round win in Nottingham. She had played one previous grass match in Hertogenbosch, so she has played just two total grass matches this season.

Best Bet to Make

The fact that Volynets is 5-1 on grass certainly works in favor of her going into this matchup. The fact that Bouzas Maneiro has played just two grass matches compared to six for Volynets also works in the American’s favor. We got burned by being too fancy in our last bet on a Volynets match. We should have taken her to win instead of going with an over-under total. We’re going to adjust and learn our lesson: Volynets moneyline. The price isn’t amazing, but it’s certainly reasonable given the American’s red-hot form.

That being said, betting on Volynets winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Volynets winning @1.68 @Pinnacle

Yastremska – Maria: Time 9:30 EST

H2H: 0-1

Dayana Yastremska faces Tatjana Maria in Nottingham. This is a contrast in styles. Yastremska likes to hit the ball hard, and Maria likes to hit the ball softly without a lot of force. Maria’s style works on grass, a surface where slicing the ball works well. A player like Yastremska, who likes to drive the ball from the baseline, has to be ready to cover the court and not get caught out of position. These aren’t elite players, but the differences between them will make this one of the most interesting matches of the day, both in Nottingham and on the tour in general. Yastremska is a respectable 3-2 in her last five matches. Maria, having a good grass season, is 4-1 in her last five matches.

Best Bet to Make

Over 2.5 sets is the play here. It’s hard to think that Yastremska will be consistent enough to win in straight sets, but it’s also hard to think Maria, an older player who doesn’t hit the ball as powerfully, will dominate the match. This should be a close match in which both players have their moments. That’s the kind of match in which to bet on three sets. With Maria being the moneyline favorite at a reasonable but not tremendous price (1.62), you could fold Maria moneyline into a parlay, but the standalone bet we are recommending is over 2.5 sets. This wraps up our Nottingham coverage for the round of 16.

That being said, betting on over 2.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: over 2.5 sets @2.45 @Betsson

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

The WTA Nottingham Round of 16 play unfolds on Wednesday.
