Oliynykova defeated Elena Pridankina in straight sets in the first round. Oliynykova is trying to climb into the WTA top 50. This win would put her into the live top 50, though other players have a chance to rise as well by the time the French Open ends. Birrell is soaring with confidence after pulling the huge upset over Jessica Pegula. Birrell lost the first set decisively but then patiently rallied to win in three sets. Can she back up that win with another victory in France?

Best Bet to Make

The Birrell upset of Pegula certainly got everyone’s attention. The question to ask is if the result was more about Birrell playing well or Pegula playing poorly. Birrell certainly played a smart, steady match and forced Pegula to be consistent. Pegula failed. Birrell deserves a lot of credit, but Pegula played a big part in allowing that match to slip away. Oliynykova is the more in-form player right now. She should win the match and probably has enough to win comfortably. You’ll get a great price for Oliynykova winning in straight sets.

That being said, betting on Oliynykova winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Oliynykova winning 2:0 @2.12 @Unibet

Vekic – Osaka: Time 5:00 EST

H2H: 0–2

Donna Vekic faces Naomi Osaka in a battle of tour veterans. Vekic handled Alice Tubello in straight sets in the first round, getting her French Open campaign off to a solid start. Osaka looked good in her first-round win against a tough opponent, Laura Siegemund. Osaka needed a tiebreaker to win the second set, but she still did a good job by winning the match in straight sets. A lot of people thought Siegemund would at least push Osaka to a third set. Now Osaka will play another established WTA Tour opponent, Donna Vekic.

Best Bet to Make

The strategy here is to have Osaka moneyline as part of a parlay but then go with something different for a single bet. Osaka did play well against Siegemund, but Vekic was in good form against Tubello in her first-round win. Osaka probably will win this match, but Vekic can and probably will make it close. Vekic knows how to manage her energy in the hot weather. She is experienced and will make Osaka work hard to finish the job.

That being said, betting on Vekic +1.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Vekic +1.5 sets @1.91 @Coral

Jovic – Navarro: Time 5:00 EST

H2H: 0–1

Iva Jovic faces Emma Navarro. These two players met just last week in Strasbourg. Navarro won that match in the Round of 16 and continued on to win the Strasbourg title. Navarro was really slumping earlier this clay season. She had lost seven matches in a 10-match span. However, she has continued to work hard and improve her game. Clearly, she has found some solutions to her problems. By winning Strasbourg and then winning her first-round French Open match, Navarro has created a six-match winning streak. Jovic is 3-3 in her last six matches, but she did beat Alexandra Eala in the first round of the French Open, a very good win for her.

Best Bet to Make

The moneyline prices for both players are good. Therefore, this should be a simple case of picking the winner and not trying for a more complicated bet, unless you want to go with the over 2.5 set bet, which is always an option if you’re struggling to pick the moneyline winner. Since Navarro is on a six-match winning streak and just defeated Jovic last week, it seems reasonable to ride Navarro’s momentum and trust that she will continue to play good tennis. Jovic is a good player, but she isn’t playing well enough right now to earn trust against Navarro.

That being said, betting on Navarro winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Navarro winning @2.05 @1xBet

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

The WTA French Open competition features the second round on Thursday.
