The 2026 edition of Roland Garros goes into the second day of first-round competition. The first round started on Sunday and will end on Tuesday, as the field goes from 128 down to 64. There are so many matches and stories to keep track of. Which top seeds are in danger? Which floaters in the draw will begin to pick up momentum, which could flow into the rest of the tournament? These and other interesting questions will soon be answered. LWOS has our best bets for three matches on Monday. This is one of the more interesting matches in the first round because of the profiles for each player going into the match. On one hand, Bucsa is ranked World No. 31 while Bandecchi is ranked outside the top 200. There’s a massive difference in overall ranking. On the other hand, Bandecchi has 10 clay match wins this year and Bucsa has none. Bandecchi is 6-1 in her last seven matches while Bucsa is on a five-match losing streak. It’s an amazing set of contrasts. The player ranked almost 200 spots lower is playing great tennis, and the player ranked almost 200 spots higher is playing really bad tennis. How do you handicap this match? Which player do you pick?

Best Bet to Make

Bucsa isn’t just losing matches; she hasn’t won one match on clay the whole year. If Bucsa was losing hardcourt matches or grass matches, this clay match might be viewed differently. However, Bucsa is struggling specifically on clay. She isn’t 3-10 or 2-6 on clay this year; she hasn’t won one clay match in 2026. That’s the kind of detail which makes it really hard to make a pro-Bucsa bet. The bet should lean to Bandecchi in some way. We’re going to go with the set spread, which offers solid value.

That being said, betting on Bandecchi +1.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Bandecchi +1.5 sets @1.89 @Unibet

Fruhvirtova – Jacquemot: Time 16:00 EST

H2H: 0–0

Linda Fruhvirtova faces Elsa Jacquemot. Fruhvirtova is ranked World No. 150, while Jacquemot is ranked No. 63, but this is another match in which the lower-ranked player is playing better tennis, and the higher-ranked player is performing poorly at the moment. Fruhvirtova is 5-1 in her last six matches, while Jacquemot is 1-5 in her last six matches. One especially noteworthy detail is that Jacquemot’s recent losses are not to top-30 or top-50 players. Win-loss records can’t just be compared on a general level. Caliber of opponents should be factored into the comparison, too.

https://lastwordonsports.com/tennis/wp-content/uploads/sites/17/2026/05/USATSI_26733975_168400550_lowres.webp

Best Bet to Make

The fact that Jacquemot is losing to relatively ordinary players as part of her recent downward trend should give bettors reason to go with the Fruhvirtova moneyline. This might be an example of fading Jacquemot more than trusting Fruhvirtova, but the end product is the same: Fruhvirtova is a better bet than Jacquemot right now, and the value is tremendous.

That being said, betting on Fruhvirtova winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Fruhvirtova winning @2.09 @Pinnacle

Kalinina – Parry: Time 5:00 EST

H2H: 3–1

Anhelina Kalinina faces Diane Parry. This is a fascinating first-round match for various reasons. First, there’s a difference of only 10 ranking spots between the two players. Kalinina is World No. 84, Parry 94. Also, Kalinina has 30 clay match wins in 2026 while Parry has only six. Kalinina is 3-1 head-to-head, but these players haven’t met since 2024, so it might not be wise to assign too much meaning to this particular head-to-head tally. Parry, though, is playing well. She is 6-1 in her last seven matches. Kalinina is 5-2 in her last seven, but Parry is in good form. She recently defeated Emma Raducanu in straight sets.

Best Bet to Make

You can see that there is a lot of conflicting information here. Kalinina has been great on clay this year, but a lot of that has been at the challenger level, not at the top levels of the WTA Tour. Kalinina leads the head-to-head by two match wins, but these players haven’t played in two years. What seems to make the most sense for a bettor is to fold a Kalinina moneyline bet into a parlay, but to make a single bet on Parry winning at least one set. It seems hard to think that Parry, an in-form player, won’t play well in this match. She should be able to keep it fairly close.

That being said, betting on Parry +1.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Parry +1.5 sets @1.80 @10Bet

Main Photo Credit: Jayne Kamin-USA TODAY Sports

The WTA French Open action continues on Monday.
