Mayar Sherif dominated ninth-seeded Anna Blinkova in the first round of qualifying, winning 6-1, 6-2. It was a surprisingly lopsided result in favor of the underdog, who made a statement in her first match of this Rome event. Sherif will take on Tamara Korpatsch, who lost the first set against lower-ranked opponent Beatrice Ricci but then rebounded to win the last two sets convincingly and move into the second round of qualifying.<\/span><\/p>\n

This match seems clear-cut. Sherif played a much stronger match against a much higher-ranked opponent in the first round of qualifying compared to Korpatsch. She feels really comfortable on this surface and showed why in her first qualifying match. Katie Volynets won her first-round qualifying match in straight sets over Darja Semenistaja. Two players coming off solid matches try to advance to the main draw of Rome in an important contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

We told you to take Kalinina over Osorio in a match that was priced very close to a toss-up. Kalinina came through, so we\u2019re not going to abandon her now. The fact that Kalinina has already won 25 matches on clay in 2026 shows how much she likes this surface and how much of a rhythm she can develop on it. It\u2019s hard to bet against that, even though Volynets looked good in her first Rome qualifying match.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Townsend is 3-3 in her last six matches, while Jimenez Kasintseva is 1-5. Her win in Rome qualifying snapped a five-match losing streak. Now let\u2019s see if Jimenez Kasintseva can build on that, or if Townsend will prevent her from starting a winning streak.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
