The final big tournament before the French Open starts with a lot of players trying to get into the 96-player main draw. It is well known on the tennis tour that Rome is a very different kind of tournament from Madrid. The environment is different in a lot of ways. It’s not easy to carry top form in Spain and continue it in Italy. Let’s look at some of the matches on the Monday card.

WTA Rome

Arango – Basiletti: Time 7:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Emiliana Arango made the second round of Madrid before losing to Linda Noskova, a top-20 player. Noemi Basiletti has spent her last several weeks playing on the challenger circuit. This, plus a gap of over 300 in the WTA rankings, explains why Arango is correctly priced as a huge favorite in this match.

Best Bet to Make

Arango winning in straight sets will not bring a good price, so you have to go to the game spread. Arango has been playing much tougher competition than Basiletti in recent weeks. Arango’s results aren’t spectacular but entirely respectable. Arango should be able to win this match by a reasonably comfortable margin – maybe not a total blowout, but certainly not the kind of match that goes deep into each set tied. This won’t be 6-4, 7-6.

That being said, betting on Arango -5.5 games is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Arango -5.5 games @1.90 @10bet

Tagger – Lamens: Time 7:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Lilli Tagger and Suzan Lamens are both 4-3 in their last seven matches. However, they have not been playing the same level of competition. Tagger, in those seven matches, played Anastasia Potapova, who made the Linz final and the Madrid semifinals. She has also played Liudmila Samsonova and Paula Badosa, two accomplished players. Suzan Lamens has played lower-profile players in her most recent set of matches.

Best Bet to Make

In addition to having played tougher opponents in recent weeks, Tagger is slightly more match-fit than Lamens, having played three matches since April 20, while Lamens has played none. Tagger is more likely to play well in this match, so she is naturally more likely to win. The price for Tagger to win in straight sets is slightly better than the price for Tagger to cover a 4.5-game spread, so go with the straight-set bet.

That being said, betting on Tagger winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Tagger winning 2:0 @1.69 @1xBet

Korneeva – Seidel: Time 7:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Alina Korneeva and Ella Seidel have been playing non-WTA tournaments in recent weeks. However, when you realize that Korneeva is 5-4 in her last nine matches while Seidel is just 2-7 in her last nine matches, the natural lean in this match is to Korneeva.
