The list of tennis farewells in April includes four players, with a former World No. 1 among those choosing to retire from the sport. As always, we have compiled all official tennis retirements in the past month. So, which players hung up their rackets?<\/p>\n

Four Tennis Players Retire in April 2026<\/h2>\n

1. Jamie Murray<\/h4>\n

Topping the April retirement list is former men’s doubles World No. 1 Jamie Murray. The Scotsman, who is the older brother of retired legend Andy Murray, announced his imminent retirement from the sport in an emotional Instagram pos<\/a>t. Murray won 34 Tour-level titles in his distinguished career, two of those with brother Andy, and he became the first British man to reach the World No. 1 ranking in doubles. Murray last competed at the 2025 US Open<\/a> alongside Croatia’s Ivan Dodig.<\/p>\n

2. Zarina Diyas<\/h4>\n

Zarina Diyas made her only appearance of 2026–in a first-round defeat at the Australian Open<\/a>. After months of deliberation, the 32-year-old formally retired in April. She reached a career high ranking of World No. 31 in 2015 and lifted one singles title at the WTA level. Although Kazakhstan has a long history of acquiring some of Russia’s top talents, Diyas will go down as the highest-ranked Kazakhstani WTA player who was actually born in Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n

3. Aliona Bolsova<\/h4>\n

Aliona Bolsova’s retirement date was well documented. The Spaniard had announced that she would play her final tournament in the WTA 125K event in La Bisbal. But shortly before she bowed out, Bolsova shocked American Top 50 player Peyton Stearns in singles before losing to countrywoman Bassols Ribera. She exited the tournament in the quarterfinal stage in doubles, which was official confirmation of her retirement.<\/p>\n

4. Anastasija Sevastova<\/h4>\n

Sevastova announced her retirement on social media<\/a> on the last day of the month. This marks the second time that Sevastova has retired from the sport, although it is highly unlikely she will embark on another comeback journey as she did over a decade ago. The 36-year-old is one of Latvia’s most successful tennis players. She reached a career-high ranking of World No. 11 at the WTA level and has career victories over Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, and Garbi\u00f1e Muguruza. She played in eight finals and won four titles.<\/p>\n
