For the second consecutive season, the Madrid Open<\/a> will be without its biggest star attraction, as Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the tournament due to a right wrist injury.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard, who has already won the tournament in Madrid twice, will miss out once again as he continues to recover from an issue picked up during his opening-round match in Barcelona<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz Confirms Madrid Withdrawal<\/h3>\n

The World No.2, who was aiming to complete a full five-tournament European clay swing this year<\/a>, entered Barcelona less than 48 hours after his final appearance in Monte Carlo.<\/p>\n

That demanding schedule quickly took its toll as Alcaraz picked up a right wrist problem in the first set of his opening match in Barcelona<\/a>. Although he managed to win the match in straight sets, he announced a day later that he would withdraw from the tournament<\/a>, with the injury proving more serious than initially expected.<\/p>\n

Just days later, Alcaraz has now confirmed that he will also miss the Madrid Open, a tournament that not only offers 1000 valuable ranking points but is also the biggest event in his home country. Taking to social media, Alcaraz wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are some news that are incredibly hard to share. Madrid is home, one of the most special places on my calendar, and that\u2019s why it hurts so much not to be able to play here for the second year in a row. It hurts especially not to be in front of my people, in a tournament that means so much. Thank you for the unwavering affection, and I hope we see each other soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

French Open Preparation Takes a Hit<\/h3>\n

The Spaniard will now continue his rehabilitation in a bid to reach the French Open<\/a> in peak condition. However, his preparation for the second Major of the year has already been significantly disrupted.<\/p>\n

This is not unfamiliar territory for Alcaraz. Since 2022, he has repeatedly dealt with injury setbacks during the clay swing, never once managing to play all three clay Masters events in a single season leading up to Roland Garros.<\/p>\n

All eyes will now be on how Alcaraz prepares for the French Open, where he will be chasing a third consecutive title. If successful, he would become just the third man in tennis history to achieve that feat, joining legends Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal.<\/p>\n
