Four of the top eight seeds have made it to the quarterfinals and they are joined by a qualifier and dangerous unseeded players. As ever, we here at LWOT preview and predict all the quarterfinal matches for you – but who will reach the last four?

ATP Munich Quarterfinal Predictions

Alex Molcan vs Denis Shapovalov

Head-to-head: Molcan 1-0 Shapovalov

Alex Molcan has put together a good run this week, coming through qualifying and building momentum with multiple matches under his belt. However, that workload could start to take a toll. Denis Shapovalov arrived with little form but has battled well, including a solid win over Tallon Griekspoor and a dominant performance against Fabian Marozsan.

This is a tough one to call, but Shapovalov’s bigger game gives him the edge in these conditions. If the Canadian can maintain consistency, his shot-making and attacking style should prove decisive. Expect a tight three-set battle, with Shapovalov just edging through.

Prediction: Shapovalov in 3

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBu9rL2fYi" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5184px; aspect-ratio: 5184/3456;" ></smartframe-embed>

Flavio Cobolli vs Vit Kopriva

Head-to-head: first meeting

Flavio Cobolli has looked solid this week, showcasing his strong baseline game and comfort on clay. The Italian brings a heavier, more aggressive style from both wings. Vit Kopriva can be a dangerous floater on his day, but lacks the consistent firepower he needs to regularly win matches at this level. Cobolli should be able to dictate rallies and apply pressure throughout. Expect him to control the match and come through comfortably.

Prediction: Cobolli in 2

Joao Fonseca vs Ben Shelton

Head-to-head: first meeting

Joao Fonseca comes into this clash in good form after a quarterfinal run in Monte Carlo and looks very comfortable on clay, a surface he grew up on Brazil and one that rewards his big-hitting game. Ben Shelton. meanwhile, is still finding his rhythm after a disappointing stretch last month. He did show signs of improvement in his last match against an in form Alexander Blockx. Shelton has the bigger serve, but its effectiveness may be reduced on clay. Fonseca can match him from the baseline and may even have the edge, particularly on the backhand side. Expect a high-quality battle, with Fonseca perhaps having a slight advantage.

Prediction: Fonseca in 3

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBqdJQJFq7" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2382px; aspect-ratio: 2382/1588;" ></smartframe-embed>

Alexander Zverev vs Francisco Cerundolo

Head-to-head: Zverev 4-3 Cerundolo

Alexander Zverev and Francisco Cerundolo have an intriguing head-to-head split across surfaces, with Cerundolo’s wins coming on clay but Zverev dominating recent meetings on hard courts. It will be interesting to see if that recent trend – with Zverev winning the last few encounters comfortably – weighs on the Argentine mentally on a surface he has previously had the better of Zverev on.

Backed by the home crowd and with a favourable draw, Zverev will be eager to push for a title but this will be one of the biggest tests he faces this week. Cerundolo has the tools to make this competitive on clay, particularly with his heavy forehand and consistency. However, Zverev’s all-round game, serving, and confidence from recent wins may prove decisive. Expect a tight contest, but Zverev should raise his level and come through.

Prediction: Zverev in 3

Main photo credit: David Kirouac-USA TODAY Sports

Just eight men remain in contention for the trophy at the ATP Munich Open.
