WTA Strasbourg and Rabat Day 1 Predictions Including Madga Linette vs Varvara Gracheva

Magda Linette Rome

In this final week before the French Open, we’re switching things up a little. The WTA Tour has 250-level tournaments in each of Strasbourg and Rabat this week, but they each only have two Main Draw matches on Sunday. So we’re combining them in this article. Who do you think will win?

WTA Strasbourg and Rabat Day 1 Predictions

Rebecca Peterson vs Petra Marcinko

This likely won’t be a fun match in Rabat, at all, for the Croatian. At only 16, she’s a wild card at this event. But she’s used to competing at ITF events (not even WTA Challengers), and facing a solid Tour-level player in her opening match is asking for disaster. Peterson will cruise.

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Irene Burillo Escorihuela

This is very similar to the last match, also in Rabat. The Spaniard isn’t a teenager, and she does have a bit more top-level experience than Marcinko in the last match, but the basic point is the same. It’s a solid Tour-level player opening a tournament against someone who wants. This match won’t be fun.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 2

Harmony Tan vs Sam Stosur

As we move into the Strasbourg matches, they get more entertaining. Stosur retired from singles tennis at the Australian Open, but she’s very quietly entered the singles draw here. The Australian still is competing (and well) in doubles, so presumably this is to just help get her some more clay experience before the French Open. She’s talented enough to win, of course, but I wouldn’t expect it.
Prediction: Tan in 3

Madga Linette vs Varvara Gracheva

This should be a good match. Linette is an incredible talent who just can’t find consistency. Gracheva is a solid player who can rise up on a good day and stun strong players. I’ll go with Linette, as she has more upside, but this match will come down whoever is playing just a tiny bit better better, and that could easily be Gracheva.
Prediction: Linette in 3
