We are approaching the business end of the tournament at the 2022 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Let’s take a look at some of the potential best bets of the day. There are a couple of a big priced underdogs that look appealing today and another slight underdog who should be a slight favourite in my opinion.
Indian Wells Best Bets March 15
Iga Swiatek vs Angelique Kerber
I was surprised to see the lines for this match when they dropped. Of course, Iga Swiatek is the rightful favourite, but Angelique Kerber’s price is a little disrespectful in my opinion. This will be the first meeting between the pair, Kerber won’t be a pushover after a couple of good wins this week. Swiatek has dropped a set in each of her matches this week, she still cruised to victory, but a similarly slow start will be punished by a player of Kerber’s class. I’m happy to recommend a small play on Kerber at these high odds, it’s very rare to get this kind of price for a player of her calibre, worth a shot.
Recommended Selections:
Angelique Kerber ML – 0.5 units @ +351
Taylor Fritz vs Jaume Munar
Jaume Munar is playing some of the best tennis of his career at the moment, on a surface that really suits his game. Munar has already won four matches this week having come through the qualifying draw, a gutsy 4-6 6-4 7-6 win over the 16th seeded Pablo Carreno Busta in the previous round was one of the best of his career. I expect the Spaniard to be a troublesome opponent for Taylor Fritz, he surely has a better chance than the odds suggest. Fritz hasn’t been in the best from of late, losing to Marcos Giron and Yoshihito Nishioka in his last couple of events, a form line that suggests he won’t have things all his own way against a red-hot Munar.
Recommended Selections:
Jaume Munar ML – 0.5 units @ +405
Ludmilla Samsonova vs Petra Martic
I see value with Martic as a slight underdog. Firstly, because she has won all three of the previous meetings between the pair. They were all recent victories too, all over the last couple of seasons. Martic prevailed 4-6 6-0 7-5 in Adelaide last year in their only previous meeting on a hard court.
Secondly, Martic seems to have rediscovered some of her better form of late, including back-to-back wins over seeded opponents this week. A tough 6-7 6-4 7-5 third round win over Emma Raducanu where the Brit served for the match, and a 7-5 7-6 win over Tamara Zidansek in the second round. These matches show that Martic is staying strong in the key moments.
Thirdly, the conditions in Indian Wells really suit the heavy, versatile game of Martic, more so than the powerful flat hitting of Samsonova. Martic has been successful at this event in the past and has experience on her side.
Recommended Selections:
Petra Martic ML – 2 units @ +148
