There should be plenty of entertaining action on quarterfinals day at the WTA Monterrey Open with four intriguing matches on the schedule in Nuevo Leon. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match. But who will book their place in the semifinals?
WTA Monterrey Quarterfinal Predictions
Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Nuria Parrizas-Diaz
Head-to-head: first meeting
Sara Sorribes Tormo had to dig deep to get past Kamila Rakhimova in the first round, but eventually outlasted the 20-year-old to win 7-5 6-7 6-1. The fourth seed was rather more comfortable up against Harmony Tan in the second round, however, dropping just four games in a 6-2 6-2 win. Nuria Parrizas-Dias, meanwhile, has been enjoying the best season of her career and has looked sharp so far this week. She opened her campaign with a 6-2 6-1 win over Misaki Doi and she backed that up by beating Heather Watson 6-4 7-6. But Sorribes Tormo is a cut above that opposition. Expect her to have too much for her compatriot.
Prediction: Sorribes Tormo in 3

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Marie Bouzkova
Head-to-head: first meeting
This has the making of a fine contest. Beatriz Haddad Maia was not at her best in her first match of the week, but she was able to find a way past Panna Udvardy, winning 1-6 6-1 7-5, and was much improved in her 6-2 6-2 win over Wang Xinyu. Marie Bouzkova arrived at the WTA Monterrey Open fresh from reaching the final in Guadalajara and she has maintained that level so far this week, beating the veteran Sara Errani in her opener, 4-6 6-2 6-4, and Petra Martic, 6-4 6-2. She may well have to go the distance to get past Haddad Maia, but expect her to have enough.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 3

Elina Svitolina vs Camila Osorio
Head-to-head: Osorio 1-0 Svitolina
Elina Svitolina has endured a difficult start to the season, but the Ukrainian – despite what is happening in her homeland – has found some form so far this week. She opened her campaign against Anastasia Potapova, dismissing the Russian 6-2 6-1, before digging deep to get the better of Viktoriya Tomova in three sets. Camila Osorio has also impressed, however, beating Magdalena Frech 6-3 7-6 and Mexican wildcard 7-6 6-3. She also beat Svitolina in their only previous meeting last year in Tenerife. Still, Svitolina is the more complete player of the two and if she can find her best tennis, or something close to it, she should have too much for Osorio.
Prediction: Svitolina in 3

Wang Qiang vs Leylah Fernandez
Head-to-head: first meeting
Leylah Fernandez’s struggles since reaching the US Open final last season have been slightly overshadowed by the difficulties experienced by the player who beat her there, but this is the first quarterfinal the Canadian has reached since her famous run in New York. She made a fine start to her week, beating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2 6-2, but had to work very hard to get the better of Zheng Qinwen in three sets. She may be tested again up against Wang Qiang, who has battled past Dalma Galfi and Mayar Sherif. But this is a match that Fernandez should be winning. Expect her to do just that.
Prediction: Fernandez in 3
