Matteo Berrettini vs Alex De Minaur

Head-to-head: First meeting

Alex De Minaur caused a great upset over Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals, and really seems to be finding his form as his matches go on. Not many would have expected him to reach the semifinals of this tournament, and he’s always a tough opponent when he’s in form. His speed around the court and excellent groundstrokes mean he has the all the makings to be a top player, and reaching the final here would be a huge confidence boost before Wimbledon.

However, the young Aussie now faces the man who many are favoring to win the championship. Matteo Berrettini has impressed plenty of onlookers this week for a number of reasons. His serve has been blistering, and he’s backed it up beautifully with his almighty forehand. This form has got a number of people considering Berrettini a serious contender for Wimbledon, which speaks volumes about how good he is on this surface. On top of this, he hasn’t dropped a set this week. If the powerful Italian can keep up his form, the sky is the limit this season.

Without a doubt Berrettini will go in as the favorite in this match. However, this doesn’t mean De Minaur won’t have his chances. As dominant as Berrettini has been, he hasn’t broken serve that often. His prowess in the tiebreaks is very impressive though, where he’s played the big points very well. De Minaur has to keep on holding serve, and his good return game may mean there will be chances here and there for him. Berrettini will probably be too strong here, but De Minaur may grab a set in the process.
Prediction: Berrettini in 3
