An exciting Montpellier Open 2021 comes to a close with the top two seeds Roberto Bautista Agut and David Goffin competing for the trophy. Who will come out on top and take the all important trophy home?
ATP Montpellier Open Final Prediction
Roberto Bautista Agut vs David Goffin
Head-to-head: Goffin 3-2 Bautista Agut
It’s perhaps fitting that the top two seeds are fighting in the final. Bautista Agut has looked like the top seed here in Montpellier and the Spaniard is yet to drop a set. Bautista Agut has beaten top quality opponents so far and didn’t drop his serve once in his semifinal clash, beating Peter Gojowczyk 7-5 6-1 in convincing fashion. That followed similarly comfortable wins over Gregoire Barrerre in the second round and Ugo Humbert in the quarterfinals.
Fortunately for Goffin, the Belgian has beaten the Spaniard three times in their last three meetings, Goffin will be mighty pleased with his performance this week. The Belgian has put up three-straight wins for the first time this year and it will be fascinating to see how his game holds up against the Spaniard.
Neither of the players possess a big serve and both rely on their baseline prowess to set up points. There’s not a lot to separate the two from the baseline apart from the fact that Goffin is slightly more adept at hitting his shots early which is a huge plus point on indoor hard courts. Expect a match worthy of a final with Goffin drawing on his experience of winning in similar conditions to get the win.
Prediction: Goffin in 3
