Day 5 at the ATP Cup features hosts Australia against Greece with Stefanos Tsitsipas taking on Alex De Minaur, John Isner of the USA facing Italy’s Fabio Fognini, and a matchup between David Goffin and Grigor Dimitrov. As the first edition of this unique tournament rolls on, which players will prevail? We also have predictions for four other Tuesday ATP Cup matches.
ATP Cup Day 5 Predictions
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alex De Minaur
Two of the promising young stars of the game. Tsitsipas has a solid edge in the h2h (4-1), but De Minaur rides a wave of home support and momentum having secured his last two match wins in three sets. This should be another close clash, but Tsitsipas is better positioned to notch the win. Prediction: Tsitsipas in 3
John Isner vs Fabio Fognini
Both players are struggling and have been for a while. Isner has a 2-0 h2h but little is going right with his serve dependent game right now. Fognini doesn’t seem to be enjoying the surface for his part and Isner still has an edge for that reason alone. This match is unpredictable but I’ll back the big serving veteran American. Prediction: Isner in 3
Daniil Medvedev vs Casper Ruud
Medvedev and Ruud are showing out so far going 2-0 in their singles matches. Medvedev has peaked faster of the two young guns, already reaching some of the biggest stages in the sport, while Ruud has taken a more slow and steady approach to rise to the top. This matchup is brimming with talent, Medvedev’s tricky game should trip up Ruud this time. Prediction: Medvedev in 2
David Goffin vs Grigor Dimitrov
Dimitrov dominates Goffin in the h2h and his form looks better, having won his first two matches of the year and prior to that reaching the semis at years end in Paris. Dimitrov’s career has not entirely panned out compare to his potential but he’s still battling away to compete at the highest level. Goffin looks set to run into a buzzsaw once again here. Prediction: Dimitrov in 2
