{"id":42865,"date":"2022-05-01T16:38:15","date_gmt":"2022-05-01T20:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/soccer\/?p=42865"},"modified":"2022-05-01T16:38:15","modified_gmt":"2022-05-01T20:38:15","slug":"three-second-half-nycfc-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/soccer\/2022\/05\/01\/three-second-half-nycfc-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"Three second-half NYCFC goals earn them a win over San Jose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>NEW YORK CITY, NY &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> After a shaky first half defensively on both sides, three second-half goals earn NYCFC a third consecutive victory with a 3-0 shutout win over San Jose.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Three second-half NYCFC goals help them win against San Jose<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>NYCFC can\u2019t find a first-half breakthrough<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite dominating the first-half opportunities and creating more chances, NYCFC couldn\u2019t find a first-half breakthrough as both sides saw defensive issues but held even till the break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The half\u2019s best opportunity would come from NYCFC as Talles Magno received a header off a corner just around the 28-minute mark. As <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Magno flicks it on goal, the ball bounced off the far post with the follow-up rebound from Valent\u00edn \u201cTaty\u201d Castellanos expertly blocked by Earthquakes keeper JT Marcinkowski.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Three late second-half goals earn NYCFC a win<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second half would open with Magno running onto a pass inside the box in the 59-minute. Dribbling around a San Jose defender and JT Marcinkowski, Magno calmly slotted it home for what seemed an NYCFC lead soon called back for offside.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Earthquakes\u2019 best chance of the half came in the 61-minute as a floated ball into New York City\u2019s box deflected to the top of the area by Taty. With one swift swing from San Jose\u2019s Eric Remedi, the ball was floated at goal and tipped just over the bar by keeper Sean Johnson to keep it 0-0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 65-minute, NYCFC\u2019s Maxi Moralez checked in, returning from injury for the first time since early April. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And come the 74-minute, NYCFC would finally find their breakthrough as Magno played give-and-go with Keaton Parks. While the defense was somewhat shaky to start the match on both sides, NYCFC dominated on the ball and the defense held strong enough to keep the Earthquakes limited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keaton Parks, Magno, and Gabriel Perreira have all played particularly well over the past few weeks with Parks earning this afternoon\u2019s Player of the Match award.
