Dallas were flying high, unbeaten in five league games. Paulo Nagamura’s side was also unbeaten in five MLS games and were building on their identity. Both teams came in leggy having won midweek U.S. Open Cup games.

At the death, Facundo Quignon goal lifts FC Dallas over Dynamo

The first 15 minutes were very exciting with chances for both sides. Tyler Pasher had a great chance from close range six minutes on but he sent the ball over the bar. José Martínez had a chance from a sharp angle off a corner but could not convert.

Sebastián Ferreira opened the scoring just after the half hour. Adam Lundqvist found him in the box with a half step of space. Ferreira did well to control the ball with his first touch the shot a bouncing ball past Maarten Paes.

Memo Rodríguez nearly made it 2-0 ten minutes into the second half. He curled the ball to his left on a direct free kick from the top of the box. The ball went off the cross bar, bounced in front of the goal and was headed out for a corner.

The game opened up in the second half with 20 minutes to go. Steve Clark made the save of the game in the 78th minute, denying Franco Jara on a header. Clark was finally beaten in the 87th minute after Jara hit the post. Tsiki Ntsabeleng pounced on a rebound on a shot from Martínez.

With six minutes of stoppage time given, the home side pushed for a winner. Quignon had a tap in off a corner that was flicked on at the near post by a Dynamo defender. He converted first time then ran across the end line with his shirt off to celebrate.

The match ended 2-1.

Never stop believing.

Facundo Quignon at the death. pic.twitter.com/ephAqSFRgH

— FC Dallas 🙂 (@FCDallas) April 23, 2022

Three Key Takeaways:

Steve Clark greatness and weakness: Clark was amazing in this game, until he wasn’t. Timbers supporters know it well. He can singlehandedly keep his team in games then make a mistake to throw it away. He was not able to secure the ball on the first goal, leaving the door open for Tsiki and ultimately the comeback win.

Dallas unbeaten in six, Houston lose second of the year: Dallas have been really good this year with all the offseason changes. The midfield was crisp. They’re scoring goals from set pieces and the run of play. They look like a playoff team.

Snake bitten Franco Jara: Jara has just one goal in MLS play this season. He’s been moved to the bench with Jesús Ferreira starting the year well. Clark robbed him in this game. Despite all the good happening around Toyota Stadium, this record signing continues to look like a dud.

Embed from Getty Images

FRISCO – FC Dallas and Facundo Quignon hosted Houston Dynamo in Copa Tejas match on Saturday afternoon.
