Based in Chicago, Illinois, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/soccer\/2018\/08\/04\/longer-mls-season-better-engagement-latin-america\/\" target=\"_self\">U.S. Soccer<\/a> is notably the federation of the most successful <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/soccer\/2021\/03\/04\/a-uswnt-roster-that-might-never-happen\/\" target=\"_self\">women\u2019s national team<\/a> in the world, the four-time FIFA World Cup winning USWNT.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">There\u2019s more to U.S. Soccer than just the USWNT and the USMNT, who defeated Honduras last night in the CONCACAF Nations League and will play Mexico on Sunday.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In fact, the U.S. Soccer Federation has bountiful amounts of youth national teams, along with Paralympic teams and futsal programs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Take a look into U.S. Soccer and its operations. In that time, the United States has grown in its appreciation and fandom of soccer. It has been part of CONCACAF since September 1961, an original member.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The current president of U.S. Soccer is Cindy Parlow Cone, who took over after Carlos Cordeiro stepped down in March 2020. Parlow Cone was the U.S. Soccer vice president, being elected to a four-year term in February 2018. When Cordeiro stepped down, Parlow Cone was promoted to president.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>U.S. Men\u2019s National Team Program<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">U.S. Soccer is home to the U.S. men\u2019s national team, along with U-23 through U-15 national teams \u2013 for both the men and women. The USMNT\u2019s leader in appearances is Cobi Jones with 164 caps. Meanwhile, Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan, both retired, are tied for the most goals, with 57, for the men\u2019s national team.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The best showing the U.S. men\u2019s national team ever had a <a href=\"http:\/\/fifa.com\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FIFA<\/a> World Cup was in 1930 when making the semifinals in Uruguay. For a long stretch from 1954 until 1990, the United States did not qualify for the World Cup. After seven-straight appearances at the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/05\/02\/countries-that-withdrew-fifa-world-cup\/\" target=\"_self\">World Cup tournaments<\/a>, the United States failed to qualify for the 2018 tournament in Russia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The USMNT is about to begin World Cup Qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the U.S. men have won the tournament six times, with its most recent win coming in 2017. In 2019, the USMNT were runners up to Mexico. They have qualified for the 2021 Gold Cup this summer.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Since 1992, the U.S. U-23 team has been tabbed for qualifying for the Olympics. Before the squad switch, the United States qualified for 11 Olympic tournaments, medaling its first appearances in 1904.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The team is currently coached by Gregg Berhalter, former Columbus Crew SC manager.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>U.S. Women\u2019s National Team Program<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The U.S. women\u2019s national team is the most successful women\u2019s national team on the planet. A record four-time FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup victors, the United States has won the last two tournaments in 2015 (in Canada) and in 2019 (in France).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The United States also won the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup in 1991, the first-ever tournament, and 1999, which was held in the United States, with the final taking place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. If the United States wins the 2023 Women\u2019s World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand, the program will be the first to win three Women\u2019s World Cup titles in a row.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Germany and the United States are the only teams to win two FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup titles in a row. Germany did so in 2003 and 2007.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In every Women\u2019s World Cup the team has participated in, the USWNT have never finished below third place. They were runners up in 2011 to Japan, and have notched third place three times, in 1995, 2003 and 2007.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">At the Olympic Games, the U.S. women have won the tournament four times, with three victories coming in a row in 2004, 2008 and 2012. However, the dominance was halted in 2016, when the United States was knocked down to fifth place after losing to Sweden. The team has qualified for the 2020 games, which will be held this summer in Tokyo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">If the United States wins the Tokyo Olympics, they will be the first team to ever win a World Cup title and an Olympic title back-to-back.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In qualifying tournaments, the United States essentially has a huge advantage with most tournaments being played in the United States. Only two of the CONCACAF Women\u2019s Championship and Gold Cup tournaments have been played outside the U.S. The U.S. has won all, except one, tournament they participated in. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In 2016, U.S. Soccer began a tournament called the SheBelieves Cup, which includes the United States and three other national teams. The United States has won the tournament four times in six years, winning the last two tournaments in 2020 and 2021.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In 2017, the federation began a Tournament of Nations, but only two competitions have been played in 2017 and 2018. The United States were runners up the first year and winners in 2018. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Kristine Lilly has the record for most appearances with 354. However, the leading goal scorer is Abby Wambach who netted 184 goals for country. Wambach was the longtime holder of the world\u2019s top leading goal scorer stat, male or female, until Christine Sinclair of Canada broke the record in 2020. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The team is currently coached by veteran NWSL coach Vlatko Andonovski.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Last Words on U.S. Soccer<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a> <span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">U.S. Soccer is on a fast-track to success but has some obstacles standing in their way. For starters, there is the legal battle between the federation and its women\u2019s national team players for equal pay. Also, soccer is not the most popular sport in the United States.
