With this result, New England Revolution suffer a third loss of the year to the Union.<\/p>\n<h2>New England Revolution suffer third season loss to Philadelphia<\/h2>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">The Revolution\u2019s futility against Philadelphia, which now owns a 16\u20136\u20136 record against New England, is reaching new lows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Philadelphia is unbeaten against the Revolution in two sides\u2019 last nine meetings across all competitions, including four matches this year. The two clubs meet one more time during the regular season\u200a\u2014\u200athe season finale, November 8, at Subaru Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\">\u201cThey\u2019re one of the best teams in the Eastern [Conference] right now, if not in MLS,\u201d Buchanan said after the game. \u201cTheir record shows it. Every time we play them it\u2019s a tough game. They\u2019re a great team. Not much you can say.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Small moments pay off big for Philadelphia Union<\/h3>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">But Monday\u2019s match was won on the margins\u200a\u2014\u200awith a lucky bounce or a singular decisive moment\u200a\u2014\u200ajust like so many other matches between these two teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Philadelphia (11\u20133\u20135, 38 points) opened the scoring in the 34th minute with New England (7-5-7, 28 points) seemingly in command of the game\u2019s tempo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Kai Wagner advanced into near the left side of the area off a Kacper Przybylko pass and sent the ball into the heart of the box. Revolution defender Andrew Farrell swept in to steer the feed away, but inadvertently cleared the ball inside the lower corner of his own net.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">It marked the second-ever own goal of Farrell\u2019s career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\">\u201cThe own goal was a big play,\u201d Revolution head coach\/sporting director Bruce Arena said. \u201cIt made us chase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">New England struggled to test Blake until the late stages of the second half, but forced him to drop low and knock away Teal Bunbury\u2019s powerful 65th minute header.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">The Union\u2019s Anthony Fontana doubled the visitors\u2019 lead by chipping past Matt Turner after running past Matt Polster and going in alone on net in the 70th minute off Jamiro Monteiro\u2019s through pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Fontana has six goals this season\u200a\u2014\u200athree are against the Revolution.<\/p>\n<h3>Revolution muster late-game rally behind Buchanan<\/h3>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">From there, the Revolution attack came alive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">First came Buchanan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NERevolution\/status\/1318361045812039681\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">second goal of the season\u200a<\/a>\u2014\u200aalso his second-ever against Philadelphia\u200a\u2014\u200ain the 80th minute. Buchanan ran in on goal after taking possession from DeJuan Jones and belted a line drive from outside the area to cut the deficit in half.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Buchanan also appeared to have the tying goal moments later then he tapped Bunbury\u2019s feed from the left side of the box in off the post, but the referee immediately called the play offside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Lee Nguyen forced a diving save from Blake with a freekick from just outside the area in the 85th minute, then shot over the crossbar in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time on the game\u2019s final attacking play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\">\u201cThe difference in the game was Blake,\u201d Arena added. \u201cThe Bunbury header, the Nguyen freekick, two outstanding saves. That would have gotten us a point in this game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">New England controlled almost 60 percent of possession on the night and out-shot the Union 22\u20137, and also held an 8\u20133 edge in shots on target.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Blake recorded seven saves for Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\">\u201cWe were right there, we should have at least come out with a point, if not a win,\u201d Buchanan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Nguyen said after the game that he felt New England went toe-to-toe with Philadelphia, which now improves to second place in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\">\u201cThis was a taste of what the post-season is going to be,\u201d Nguyen said, though the Revolution are at least two games away from clinching a playoff berth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\">\u201cIt\u2019s good for us to see what we need to work on, to improve, and how close we are.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FOXBOROUGH, MA. &#8211; Tajon Buchanan\u2019s wonder strike set the New England Revolution up for a comeback against the Philadelphia Union on Monday night at Gillette Stadium, but a disallowed goal and some stunning goalkeeping by Andre Blake stifled a late rally as the Union prevailed, 2\u20131.
