PORTLAND, OREGON (May 13, 2018) —\u00a0<\/strong>One-hundred down, another 100 matches to go between the Seattle Sounders FC and Portland Timbers.<\/p>\n

The two rival clubs celebrated their long-standing rivalry at Providence Park. The Cascadia Cup ended with the Timbers celebrating three points with their home fans.<\/p>\n

After almost a whole match of high-intensity action,\u00a0Sebasti\u00e1n Blanco slotted a shot from the right side of the box. Assisted by Samuel Armenteros, the goal was scored in the 86th minute.<\/p>\n

Portland Timbers Take Match 100 Against Seattle Sounders FC<\/strong><\/h1>\n

After the match, Blanco, a native of Argentina said it’s always “important to win this game.”<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a derby,” Blanco said. “It\u2019s a different game versus other teams. It\u2019s a different game in MLS. We played well in some moments and bad in some, but I think we dominated the whole game.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the match, Portland Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese said that winning against Seattle “feels great” but knew the match would be difficult.<\/p>\n

“They\u2019re tough,” Savarese said. “These kind of games are battles. I\u2019m very proud of how the guys continued to battle, how the guys continued to be disciplined, how they worked hard throughout the entire match and how they found a way at the end to be able to get the result that we wanted.”<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m just very proud of the effort that everyone put into the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

In goal for Portland, goalkeeper\u00a0Jeff Attinella made one save to preserve the clean sheet. Meanwhile, on the other side, Stefan Frei made one save and prevented three crosses.<\/p>\n

Seattle Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer said he doesn’t want his side to “be average.”<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to be a championship-caliber team,” Schmetzer said. “That actually drives us to be better. That\u2019s what it does. We are not going to sit here and feel sorry for ourselves because we lost one game. It\u2019s as simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n
