Kansas City, KS (September 24, 2017)<\/strong> – Sporting KC defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy by the score of 2-1 in front of a good crowd at Children’s Mercy Park. Sporting were looking to avoid a trophy hangover after winning the 2017 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup during the week.<\/p>\n

Sporting KC Avoid Trophy Hangover, beat LA Galaxy 2-1<\/h1>\n

Sporting got the game started off nice and early with a few quick shots to challenge Clement Diop. With the Galaxy playing Gyasi Zardes at right back, that was certainly Sporting KC\u2019s favored side to attack. However, the first goal came from the other side.<\/p>\n

Diego Rubio rotated out wide and picked up the ball in space. His pass picked out the run of Daniel Salloi who neatly flicked it on past Diop for Sporting KC\u2019s first goal.<\/p>\n

It was all business for the next fifteen minutes or so. Then Ilie Sanchez sprung in a very adventurous Seth Sinovic, playing more wingback than his normal role at left back. He was clean in on goal, but found an onside, wide-open Diego Rubio, who sent it into the back of the wide open goal. The two goal lead stood through halftime, until the 58th<\/sup> minute.<\/p>\n

Romain Alessandrini took an incredible free-kick from around 25 yards out. The shot had too much pace and bend on it for Tim Melia to remotely stand a chance at it. After that the Galaxy had a couple close calls, combined with six minutes of stoppage time but couldn\u2019t find a goal within themselves.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Galaxy are still only a point ahead of the Colorado Rapids for worst in the Western Conference. Both are firmly into the last two spots in the west thanks to recent resurgence of Minnesota United. Next, the Galaxy will travel to Houston to take on the Dynamo on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Sporting KC\u2019s win puts them into second place in the Western Conference on 47 points. Their next match is next Saturday at Children\u2019s Mercy Park. They\u2019ll host the Vancouver Whitecaps in a battle for first place. Kickoff will be at 8pm local time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
