LA Galaxy vs. D.C. United Prediction for May 20; Galaxy Rebound Against D.C.?

For just a moment this past weekend, the Los Angeles Galaxy gave their fans a glimmer of hope with a 2-1 Cali Clásico win at home. In their second straight win, the LA attack and defense finally gelled and resulted in their best collective display this season. A few days later, the hope train would come crashing to a halt with a typically exasperating away display that ended in a 2-0 loss to the Columbus Crew. Fortunately, they’ll have another chance at picking up their first road win this season if they can rebound against D.C. United this Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Before the two-game win streak, the Galaxy had been consistent in their futility. The team keeps writing history, and not in a good way, for their dismal start. They currently sit in last place in the conference and the entire league. Through 12 matches, LA holds a 2-3-7 record with nine points and a -10 goal differential. They’ve won just twice in 12 games and have scored only ten goals while conceding 20. In the last four games, they’ve lost three times, conceded eight goals, and only scored three.

The Galaxy’s offense will have to come from Chicharito, Dejan Joveljic, and Tyler Boyd if they are to rebound against D.C. Riqui Puig will have to orchestrate the attack and find these attackers between the lines for LA to have a chance at victory.

D.C. United Current Run of Form

United is winless in their last three MLS matches. But if there’s any team that can help them break that streak, it’s the Galaxy. Wayne Rooney’s boys carry a 4-4-5 record that leaves them in eighth place in the Eastern Conference and even on goal differential. But this team has been hit hard by injuries.

Designated Player Taxiarchis Fountas has been out and will miss this match, as will Andy Najar. This means Christian Benteke and Mateusz Klich have been carrying the offensive load for D.C. United. Former Galaxy player Derrick Williams will also reunite with his former teammates during this game.

Recent Head-to-Head

These teams haven’t played since 2019, but United has owned the Galaxy in this series. In that 2019 matchup, D.C. took a 2-1 home victory. And it hasn’t been much kinder LA before that. The Galaxy’s last win over United was a 4-1 home match in March 2016. In the nation’s capital, LA is somehow worse. They haven’t beaten D.C. United on the road since 2010, where they secured a 2-1 victory. This is the lone win in nine attempts for LA, dating back to 2007.

LA Galaxy vs. D.C. United Prediction

It’s hard to picture anything other than a D.C. United win or draw in this game. In fact, the Galaxy would be lucky to escape with a draw based on their Columbus display. Add in that the Galaxy hasn’t won on the road all season and scored only one goal away, and this call becomes simple. United will take all three points against the Galaxy and kill any chance of a rebound against D.C. happening this weekend.
