Atletico Ottawa Predicted Lineup vs York United

How Atletico Ottawa Have Lined-up Recently

So far this season, Atletico Ottawa has primarily played with a backline that can act as both a back three or five. Diejo Espejo on loan for his second season from Atletico Madrid has started every game at CB. Luke Singh and Karl Ouimette have also occupied the CB spot, with both earning two starts so far. Miguel Acosta has featured in multiple positions in the lineup. He has played as a right centre-back in a back three but most recently featured as a CDM against Valour FC. Since the injury to Ollie Bassett, the midfield has consisted of Zakaria Bahous, Gabriel Antinoro and Noah Verhoeven. Abou Sacko also saw his first start at LWB against Valour FC but that space is usually occupied by veteran Maxim Tissot. Out on the right flank, it has been Jean-Aniel Assi that has started every game for Atletico Ottawa. An in-form Malcolm Shaw has now earned back-to-back starts as a striker.

Atletico Ottawa Recent Form

Atletico Ottawa has started their Canadian Premier League campaign off with two draws. The first match of the season began against HFX Wanderers at TD Stadium in Ottawa. After a well-worked goal that saw Zachary Fernandez open his CPL goal account, Ollie Bassett equalized for Atletico Ottawa just before the half. While there was a handball shout in the second half for Atletico Ottawa, nothing was given. The game ultimately ended in a one-all draw on April 15th.

Atletico Ottawa’s second competitive match of 2023 was in the Canadian Championship also against the HFX Wanderers. This time the match took place at York Lions Stadium as neither team could commit to hosting the match. After Massimo Ferrin broke open the scoring for HFX Wanderers, it was Atletico Ottawa’s response that stole the show. Shaw and Espejo scored just four minutes apart to take the lead, just before halftime. Maxim Tissot sealed the deal in the 85th minute on a pass from Jean-Aniel Assi, who was impressive all game long. 3-1 was the final score.

Atletico Ottawa’s most recent match was against Valour FC at IG Field in Winnipeg. Diego Gutierrez scored just three minutes into the match with the midfielder going on to win CPL Player of the Week. Gianni Dos Santos tied the match in the first half with a shot that fooled keeper Rayane Yesli. The second half saw little action for either side as Atletico Ottawa saw their second 1-1 draw of the CPL season.

A common theme so far for Atletico Ottawa is that they are able to come back from being down. In all three matches they have played, they have conceded first but have yet to lose.

Atletico Ottawa Injuries to Consider

Ollie Bassett is still out with no timetable given for a return. Bassett came off injured early in the Canadian Championship match against HFX Wanderers and had to be replaced. As mentioned in the LWOS post-match talking points, head coach Carlos Gonzalez stated that Ollie had felt something in his hamstring.

Last season’s CPL MVP being injured will be a big blow to Atletico Ottawa. The club will need to find some sort of rhythm in the midfield to play well in his absence. Fullbacks Zachary Roy and Carl Haworth both are unknowns, having been injured since the beginning of the season. Carlos Gonzalez mentioned earlier this month that there is hope they could return soon.
