About Nacho Gil
Over the last couple of weeks, there have been a number of rumours and photos of Nacho Gil. It was something that straight away seemed noteworthy with the Spaniard training for the New England Revolution and now all of this has come to fruition. He has joined his brother Carles Gil in the league.
Gil’s career began in the youth ranks at Valencia CF, very close to where he grew up. He was a regular with the B-Team before going on to make eight appearances with the first team. The 26-year-old frequented both the Primera and Segunda Divisions in Spain, the former mostly being with Las Palmas. Elsewhere, he went on loan to Elche from Valencia and ran out for Ponferrardina and Cartagena. This move to Massachusetts is his first time playing football outside of his home country.
The Revolution has a lot to play for in the final stretch of the regular season. On top of this, they are dealing with a lot of injuries and so the arrival of Nacho Gil can provide some much-needed depth.

The Gil Brothers Join Forces
Throughout their respective careers, it has been Carles that has been one step ahead of Nacho Gil. His time with Aston Villa in the Premier League is evidence of this- he scored a couple of superb goals on English shores. There was no crossover between the pairs’ time with the Valencia first team and Elche so New England is a first for them in that respect.
In terms of two brothers playing alongside each other in Major League Soccer and it isn’t as uncommon as one would expect. The Portland Timbers boast the Chara duo whilst the Seattle Sounders FC of course has Alex and Cristian Roldan amongst their ranks. These are just two of a number of family pairings in MLS.
