Ismael Tajouri-Shradi is the Latest Addition in New England

New York City FC midfielder Ismael Tajouri-Shradi celebrates his goal at Banc of California Stadium

Just like that, the MLS transfer window has slammed shut. Few teams have been as busy this summer as the New England Revolution. Further additions have been pointed towards, and one has now been landed. The club has confirmed the arrival of Ismael Tajouri-Shradi via GAM from LAFC.

Where Does Ismael Tajouri-Shradi Fit in New England?

As previously mentioned, Bruce Arena and co have been particularly active in this window. Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Lletget have been moved on already and what you could call replacements have been on the radar. The former was unable to nail down a starting spot for various reasons and Giacomo Vrioni is the new face up front. The Albanian is primarily coming in to fill the Adam Buksa-shaped void.

Lletget’s departure is down partly to not fitting the system and this is where Ismael Tajouri-Shradi comes in. The Libyan international works best out wide and a duo of him and Dylan Borrero is potentially frightening. Borrero has performed well since joining Atletico Mineiro in Brazil. This pair on either side of Vrioni and Gustavo Bou, if deployed appropriately, could force New England above the playoff line.

Tajouri-Shradi didn’t ever get the chance in California due both to a lot of competition and injuries too. Adding Gareth Bale and maybe Denis Bouanga to a squad that already has Carlos Vela and Chicho Arango doesn’t do the new Revs’ man any favours. He was a bit-part player with NYCFC too – when he did enter the field from the bench, there were moments of brilliance for all to see.

The LAFC Perspective

Going back to the new arrivals under Steve Cherundolo and they are truly frightening for the rest of the league. Arango hasn’t got the love he has deserved so far in the infamous black and gold and that is just the start of it. Ismael Tajouri-Shradi moving onto the Revs allows them to add another player in the attacking third.

Bale joining on a max-TAM deal blew many, many minds. This allows Saint Etienne striker Bouanga to fill the remaining DP slot if all goes well. It isn’t surprising to see a player pushing for more minutes, even if he is in the ranks of the team to beat in Major League Soccer.

Ismael Tajouri-Shradi going to New England is fascinating all around. Christian Makoun and Clement Diop have both joined in the last few days as well so it is clear that Arena is wanting a shake-up. Can the 28-year-old make the difference in Foxborough?
