Giacomo Vrioni Speaks to the New England Press for the First Time

Juventus player Giacomo Vrioni in Turin, Italy

Just days after arriving in the United States, the New England Revolution’s latest signing has spoken to the media for the first time. Giacomo Vrioni arrives in MLS from European giants Juventus and with a lot of promise. A Designated Player contract means the Albanian will be tasked with leading the line with aplomb.

A Bit About the Player

As previously mentioned, Giacomo Vrioni joined the Revolution from the Old Lady. He made three rare appearances for the Italian side and so there were multiple loan moves to supplement this. Going on from this, fans of the Revs won’t have seen a whole lot of the player to date. Here is his say on his preferred position: “I like it there because I feel more comfortable… I like to be the number nine, to be a striker. This is my best position.”

Vrioni arrives at the club as a replacement for Adam Buksa, as has been confirmed by Bruce Arena. The Pole along with goalkeeper Matt Turner and Tajon Buchanan has made the move to Europe recently. Djordje Petrovic and Dylan Borrero have done a good job so far of filling the voids of the latter two. Giacomo Vrioni is now tasked with partnering Gustavo Bou and putting the ball into the back of the net.

Does he feel pressure as a DP signing though? “I don’t put pressure on myself. Of course, I push myself to give everything every day, to learn something from the coach”. He then went on to heap a lot of praise on Bruce’s shoulders, citing his time with the USMNT in particular. The Albian then went on to speak highly of New England as a team:” I think we are a big team that plays good football, and we have to find the self-confidence and maintain the calm to win the games.”

How Will Giacomo Vrioni Fare with the Revolution

In his own words, Giacomo “had a lot of teams here during the season and at the end of the season” interested in him. This begs the question of why he chose the Revs. “I saw that the coach believes a lot in me and also all of the team, all of the staff… For the player, this is very important.”

It is quite a strange scenario surrounding Giacomo Vrioni regarding his future. He has only just arrived in the league and people are already looking toward that next step. “I’m not thinking about the future because the team invests a lot in me and I want to give everything back.” Bou has done well to replace Buksa’s goals but Vrioni is the next man up to do so.

“I’m concentrating on what’s right now!”

The aforementioned Revolution players have earnt their transfer to Europe, and it will surely beckon for Giacomo Vrioni if this move goes to plan. He reiterated a similar message about focussing on this season with the Revs: “I’m concentrating on the present. This is an amazing team, an amazing family, so I will give everything here.”

Finally then, to the life away from the field for the 23-year-old forward. “It’s my first time in America, to be honest… I’ve been here since Friday, so I started to see a little bit of the city, it’s very nice, and I’m really, really happy to be here.” Enjoying aspects outside of football is the key to success so fingers are crossed for Vrioni’s time with this organisation.
